Format: Main-story JRPG narrative script with playable sequences, cinematic direction, character notes, and author-review annotations.
Language: English.
Audience: Author / narrative / art / design review. Full-story spoilers.
Status: ✅ End-to-end first-pass story draft. 📋 Dialogue editing, unresolved lore decisions, encounter design, and production implementation remain.
Original draft: September 14, 2026.
Canon update: September 15, 2026. D01–D16 accepted by Sin; D10 clarified below.
The story's promise: A young Hunter who protects himself by loving nobody learns to defend imperfect, temporary lives—including his own—against beings willing to replace them in pursuit of a better existence.
This is a readable first draft of the main narrative, not merely a plot outline. The opening, recruitment, companion conflicts, major revelations, final confrontations, and return home have scripted dialogue. Exploration routes, ordinary enemy encounters, incidental townspeople, and every possible battle bark are not exhaustively scripted. No gameplay duration or engine capability is implied.
The central story reaches an ending. Sin accepted D01–D16 on September 15, 2026, with the D10 clarification that prosecuting Orin's father would expose deeper military corruption. Those decisions are canon. Dialogue, staging and detailed gameplay remain drafts. Remaining open questions are listed individually; prior requests to approve these sixteen choices are superseded.
1. Reading and review guide
What the labels mean
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ESTABLISHED | A story decision supplied or explicitly accepted by the author in this conversation. |
| ACCEPTED CANON — Dxx | D01–D16 were explicitly accepted by Sin on September 15, 2026. D10 includes his clarification about suppressed prosecution and deeper military corruption. |
| OPEN — Qxx | A decision the author has deliberately not settled. The draft avoids deciding it, or identifies its temporary staging choice. |
| SCENE / ACTION | What the player sees or hears; not a narrator reading production notes. |
| PLAY | Suggested player activity and narrative encounter objective. These are design proposals, not implemented features. |
| REVIEW | Information for the author, including motivation, continuity, and presentation risks. Not in-game dialogue. |
| OPTIONAL RESPONSE | A small player-expression choice. Unless stated otherwise, responses reconverge without changing established character growth. |
Character names in bold precede dialogue. Short italic passages describe acting or camera direction. Dialogue can be divided into additional text boxes during implementation; paragraph breaks indicate natural pauses, not a fixed engine limit. Stage directions must not appear as spoken lines.
Scene IDs are stable review references. An annotation such as “C06-S04: Father needs more hesitation” is sufficient to locate a proposed change.
Character and dramatic guardrails
Arin's power is not what makes his life worth saving. Mira saves him before knowing his ancestry. Orin's courage exists before lightning. Zara is genuinely artificial, not a disguised biological person. Milo is a male, four-legged dog from a spacefaring canine people, not a human in a dog-shaped costume. Kael's compassion explains his conduct without absolving his victims' losses. Aevos is a powerful creator/custodian, not an actual omnipotent god.
No faction is an entire species. Human liberators do not make all humans innocent; artificial enslavers do not make Zara responsible; bereaved villagers are not all violent attackers. The worth of a life does not depend on intelligence, combat usefulness, cosmic ancestry, or its eventual contribution to history.
“Humanity” can describe Arin's capacity for compassion, but dialogue must not imply that compassion is exclusively human. The party itself disproves that proposition.
The story does not prove that suffering is necessary or good. Its heroes continue fighting disease, deprivation, and cruelty. They oppose involuntarily replacing existing people with hypothetical happier successors.
2. Story foundation and source ledger
Established foundation
| ID | Author-established material used in this draft |
|---|---|
| S01 | Arin is an orphan whose parents died in a ship explosion. He becomes a poor, isolated Hunter and avoids attachment because he fears another devastating loss. |
| S02 | Arin is a distant descendant of a Kael incarnation and the first known descendant with Kael's innate cosmic potential. It remains incompletely awakened in the first game. He never individually equals full-power Kael in this game. |
| S03 | Arin's increasingly clear sleep utterances of the Axiom disturb worlds and attract Kael's attention. The Axiom is reality's underlying language, not ordinary magic. |
| S04 | Mira, Neris's compassionate water-arts healer and future queen, saves Arin. She investigates famine, disease, war, and filtered reports. Her romance with Arin remains secondary and understated. |
| S05 | Orin is a former Neris officer/commander, later Hunter, whose protective courage predates his rare lightning skills. He helps Arin in an apparently unwinnable off-world fight. |
| S06 | Orin rescued a mysterious old man, received a prediction about a restorative lightning strike, and later gained or awakened lightning abilities. The old man's identity and the precise mechanism are unresolved. |
| S07 | Orin's father diverted military food and armaments bound for other villages to his own starving village. He saved his family/community while worsening deprivation elsewhere. Exposure brought shame, threats, and an attack on the family home. No military charges were brought because prosecution would expose deeper corruption within the military. He eventually resigned. |
| S08 | Orin's parents remain in love. His mother relocated for safety, not because the marriage ended. They limit ordinary contact and exchange private love letters. Orin visits his sister but has avoided his parents. |
| S09 | Zara is fully artificial, human-created conscious life and a Hunter for adventure. A separate hostile AI faction caused Arin's parents' deaths. His prejudice must give way to individual judgment, humility, and a specific apology. |
| S10 | Milo belongs to the Kynari, an ancient spacefaring canine civilization. Some Kynari were enslaved by an AI faction and liberated by humans. His people's connection to Earth dogs is part of the fictional history. |
| S11 | Kael remembers many incarnations and millions of cosmic cycles. He cannot reliably see the future. He can alter worlds and galaxies but cannot independently rewrite reality's foundational rules. He especially cares for Earth; his exact Earth/Mars origin remains open. |
| S12 | Arin's emergence inspires Kael's proposed Second Dawn: remake existence together. Kael repeatedly asks him to join. Arin refuses to wager existing lives on uncertain improvement. |
| S13 | A physical gateway leads outside normal spacetime to the enduring Origin. Aevos reveals the simulated universe and Kael's diagnostic “The One” role. This is Kael's first return despite earlier cycles. |
| S14 | The attempt to stop Kael helps open that gateway and exposes the universe to Aevos's reset. Kael later intervenes against Aevos and is mortally wounded. The universe does not depend on Aevos's continued life. |
| S15 | Arin inherits knowledge, not an automatic promise of immortality, reincarnation, or Kael's assigned role. His friends remain essential. Kael's ultimate fate and future capacity remain unsettled. Sin Star II is reserved for Arin's rise and developing love with Mira. |
| S16 | The supplied “Final Boss Fight.png” establishes the Origin battle's visual ambition: colossal cosmic figure, multiple arms, worlds, hourglasses, luminous rings, shattered structures, and a reflective arena. The complete five-member party must be present even though the reference composition shows fewer foreground fighters. |
Canon update: D01–D16 accepted by Sin on September 15, 2026. D10 supersedes the original uncertainty about prosecution. Remaining dialogue and staging stay draft material.
Provenance: S01–S15 summarize the author's decisions in the current story-development conversation. S16 refers to the author's attached illustration, inspected for this draft. These are internal editorial references, not external historical or scientific sources. All scene dialogue and connecting action below are newly drafted fiction. No repository implementation, outside lore research, or earlier assistant suggestion is being represented as author-approved fact.
Accepted canon decisions D01–D16
| ID | Accepted decision | First substantial use |
|---|---|---|
| D01 | The opening occurs in Neris on an unnamed inhabited world. Kael detects the remote resonance while visiting Earth; Arin need not be physically on Earth. | C00-S01 |
| D02 | Arin's armor is inexpensive Neris surplus, explaining its resemblance to Orin's service armor and Mira's field equipment without inventing military service for Arin. | C00-S02 |
| D03 | Neris uses a damaged ancient relay to support water and energy infrastructure. Mismanagement, genuine shortages, concealed faults, and Axiom disturbances overlap; none alone explains every crisis. | C01-S03 |
| D04 | Mira departs with a limited investigative mandate and a relief handover, rather than abandoning her people without arrangements. | C01-S04 |
| D05 | Veyra is a Kynari frontier/trading world, not the hidden ancestral homeworld. An evacuation introduces Orin and then Zara and Milo. | C02-S01 |
| D06 | Kynari language is translated by a wearable device. It does not create intelligence. Their spatial/scent-based engineering supplies navigational skills distinct from Zara's systems expertise. | C03-S01 |
| D07 | Ordinary elemental arts are limited expressions of the Axiom. Voice alone is insufficient: living authority, coherence, and deliberate control matter. Recordings cannot reproduce Arin's effects. | C04-S02 |
| D08 | Recovered wartime records identify a particular AI combat faction and unit as responsible for the ship attack. Zara is not personally connected to that unit. | C05-S01 |
| D09 | The family's village and an affected destination are called “the home village” and “East Valley.” Orin is staged as an unwitting beneficiary; exact age, names, and the father's prior knowledge remain open. | C06-S01 |
| D10 | Orin's father was never prosecuted because doing so would expose deeper corruption within the military. Neris's present supply inquiry exposes obstruction and this institutional suppression. Reform begins; it is not finished by a boss fight. Avoiding prosecution neither acquits him nor removes his responsibility for the diversions. | C06-S05 |
| D11 | Surviving ancient archives establish imported human ancestral patterns, consciousness participating in reality, and persistent traces after death. This is fictional cosmology, not a claim about real biology or physics. | C07-S03 |
| D12 | Earlier cosmic renewals belonged to one continuing experiment and preserved Kael. His return is a different termination condition, which would discard him too. | C09-S02 |
| D13 | Opening access requires two distinct compatible living signatures, not agreement. Rewriting foundations requires sustained cooperation. A protective counter-Axiom accidentally satisfies the access condition. | C08-S04 |
| D14 | A pretested synchronized field keeps the party aligned with elapsed time at home. It neither freezes the universe nor rewinds the departure instant. | C08-S01 |
| D15 | At the Origin, severing Aevos's destructive supervisory access preserves the independent sustaining machinery. The party must defeat his intervention without smashing that machinery. | C09-S03 |
| D16 | The accepted ending carries a critically wounded Kael out alive, without promising eventual recovery. Arin survives and remains of unknown lifespan. The alternate immediate-death scene is retained only as a superseded comparison, not the current ending. | C09-S05; E01-S01 |
Principal open decisions
The old man's identity is intentionally unrevealed. Kael's eventual prognosis, Arin's longevity, literal interpretation of “half human,” the future custodian, and any marriage or child are not settled here. D16 settles this game's staged return: both Arin and critically wounded Kael leave alive; a mandatory life-cost death for Arin is not the accepted ending. The closing review register explains which scenes would change under alternatives.
3. Cast and performance notes
Arin
At entry: A capable but under-equipped Hunter who mistakes isolation for freedom. He has tenderness he works hard not to display. His nightmares and exhaustion increase his impatience; they are not his entire personality.
Voice: Short, practical sentences; dry observations. Early questions concern pay, routes, and survival. Later he asks what others need. Do not make him deliver polished philosophical monologues every time he learns something.
Private want: Never again be helpless while someone he loves dies. Growth: Allow attachment without claiming he can guarantee anyone's safety. Gameplay expression: Learns several elements, but specialists retain skill and judgment he lacks. He cannot solve the last encounter alone.
Mira
At entry: A trained water-arts healer and responsible princess investigating conditions the palace does not adequately see. She is decisive, observant, and occasionally overconfident that asking the right questions will make institutions cooperate.
Voice: Direct and specific. She asks who is missing, where supplies went, and what treatment is available. Warmth comes through attention rather than constant speeches about kindness.
Private want: Become a ruler who deserves accurate answers, not someone people protect from them. Growth: Share responsibility; accept limits without accepting neglect. Relationship note: Never owes Arin romance for protecting him. Never loses political purpose when affection develops.
Orin
At entry: An experienced ex-commander, practical protector, and reluctant recipient of help. Dry humor. He notices fatigue and poor equipment. His unease around home is different from his steadiness under fire.
Voice: Tactical clarity in danger; evasive economy about himself. Distinguish him from Arin through rhythm, posture, and address rather than changing their accepted names.
Private want: Protect people without again lending his courage to a harmful decision. Growth: Face a loved one's wrongdoing without reducing him to it; let others stand beside him. Power note: Lightning extends his abilities. It did not give him courage.
Zara
At entry: Entirely artificial, openly so, a Hunter because she enjoys choosing difficult and interesting work. Her curiosity is personal, not a machine demonstrating it has a soul.
Voice: Precise, playful, sometimes impatient. Humor must not turn her into an infallible lie detector. She can be hurt, angry, mistaken, and slow to trust after an apology.
Private want: Live a life not defined by the uses others intended for her. Growth: Adventure includes remaining for the aftermath. Boundary: She owes nobody an apology for an unrelated AI faction's crimes. Forgiveness is her decision, not Arin's reward for feeling guilty.
Milo
At entry: A male Kynari surveyor/courier with four paws, expressive ears, a keen appetite, and responsibilities to living relatives and community. He is cute without being property.
Voice: Concrete, observant, occasionally very funny. He does not speak only in jokes or vaguely wise proverbs. His translator leaves room for breathing, posture, whines, and barks.
Private want: Explore without giving up the people and places that make returning worthwhile. Growth: Trust selected outsiders without erasing his people's reasons for caution. Staging: Paw/nose-accessible controls, low work surfaces, harness-mounted tools. He does not suddenly grow hands for an important scene.
Kael
At entry: Ancient embodied consciousness, reborn across lives and cycles, carrying the cumulative memory of love and loss. He is not constantly raging. Long stretches of patient attention make his occasional weariness more affecting.
Voice: Almost conversational at first; increasingly urgent when Arin can refuse something he has awaited for ages. He knows much more than the party, but not everything. His predictions are inferences, never reliable future sight.
Private want: End involuntary loss and make existence worthy of continuing. Fatal error: Treat replacements as rescues and lives as negotiable inputs. Change: Arin's emergence challenges his certainty; he finally protects existing people without requiring proof of eternal benefit.
Aevos
At entry: An ancient creator/custodian from a civilization that has not solved its own suffering. Calm, attentive, and capable of sincere concern. He uses the word “care” without recognizing the ownership it assumes.
Voice: Plain and exact, not snarling. He should sound as though he is explaining a painful but responsible procedure. Let the threat come from what he is prepared to do, not from insults.
Dramatic function: Offers Kael's argument back to him at a larger scale. Limit: He controls the Origin's supervisory access, not existence by personal heartbeat. He can be defeated locally without proving the creators' whole civilization has been conquered.
Supporting roles
ORIN'S FATHER: A genuinely respected former officer who diverted supplies, saved his village, and cannot reconcile the gratitude with the losses elsewhere. His love is real; so is his responsibility.
ORIN'S MOTHER: A partner choosing safety while sustaining her marriage privately. Neither absolving witness nor passive victim. Her knowledge before exposure is not invented here.
ORIN'S SISTER: Maintains contact with her brother and respects her parents' privacy. Does not manipulate a reconciliation. Name and profession remain open.
KING / QUEEN OF NERIS: Mira's living parents. Concerned with continuity and order; not automatically innocent because reports were filtered. Exact responsibility remains reviewable.
MARSHAL: A working antagonist in Neris's present administration. A role label pending naming. His conduct does not retroactively account for every past crime.
OLD MAN: Genuinely rescued by Orin in the visible version. Irritable, observant, physically vulnerable. No confirmed identity or comprehensive exposition.

Prologue — Room for One
C00-S01 — The dream that follows him
SCENE
Black screen. A loose fitting rattles against metal. A woman's hand fastens a strap around a child's wrist. We do not see her whole face.
MOTHER: Too tight?
YOUNG ARIN: No.
FATHER: He'd say that if you tied him to the chair.
A brief laugh. Arin remembers the laugh clearly.
The sound becomes a warning chime. Light flashes across a viewport. A shape beyond the glass disappears inside white fire.
No graphic bodies. No final parental speech explaining the plot.
Arin runs toward a door that moves farther away with each step.
ARIN: Wait—
The door opens onto a vast, dark floor. An indistinct figure stands beyond its reflected light.
PLAY
A short dream encounter teaches defensive input. The enemy's attack patterns are readable; the player can improve, but the scene ends after a fixed small number of exchanges. No consumables, lost currency, or false promise that grinding can defeat this opponent. Arin's attacks do not reach far enough.
Close / EffortlessC00-S01
Every attack becomes another lesson. Only the sword gives him something to remember.
Silent action Arin attacks again and again; the shadow turns him aside and knocks him down with almost no effort. He rises behind his shield. The opponent vanishes and reappears far away. Its face remains hidden, but the violet starfield blade and star-shaped guard leave a clear memory.
ARIN: Who are you?
The figure does not answer. A line of light divides the floor.
Arin raises his weapon. His mouth forms a sound that is not subtitled as an ordinary word.
Cut to the lodging room. A cup moves across the table without being touched. A hairline crack travels up the plaster.
Arin wakes with one hand extended.
ARIN: ...No.
Someone pounds on the wall.
NEIGHBOR: Some of us work in the morning!
ARIN: So do I.
He lowers his hand before noticing what it is doing. The cup stops against a ledger listing rent and armor repairs.
He opens a small compartment. Inside is the worn wrist strap from the dream. He touches it, then closes the compartment before the music can become comforting.
A second pillow lies unused on the bed. He takes it off and wedges it against the rattling window.
TRANSITION: Dawn. The crack remains in the wall.
C00-S02 — A contract, not a calling
SCENE
The armorer holds Arin's shoulder plate against the light.
ARMORER: This is Neris issue.
ARIN: It was Neris issue. Then it was a box behind a counter. Then it was mine.
ARMORER: The rivets remember the first owner.
ARIN: Can they pay for the repair?
The armorer points to the cracked fastening.
ARMORER: I can replace that much. The rest needs proper work.
Arin counts coins twice. The result does not change.
At the guild counter, the clerk turns a contract toward him.
CLERK: Night inspection. Lower waterworks. Missing survey crew. Recover their route recorder if the route is unsafe.
ARIN: Recovery fee?
CLERK: If the recorder is intact.
ARIN: And the crew?
CLERK: A rescue allowance. If they're alive.
He studies the line for equipment damage.
CLERK: There are group contracts.
ARIN: Then split one between a group.
CLERK: You could join a group, Arin.
ARIN: I heard you.
He signs.
OPTIONAL RESPONSE — clerk asks for an emergency contact
- “Leave it blank.”
- “The guild will have my account.”
Either response leads to the clerk setting the field aside without a joke.
PLAY
A short town route establishes closed bakeries, a public water queue, soldiers guarding an orderly distribution point, and people who disagree about why shortages are occurring. One soldier gives a child part of her own ration. Another turns a sick laborer away because his permit is for a different district.
Do not explain the whole kingdom through one villainous guard.
Arin passes the water queue. He checks the time on his contract and continues.
C00-S03 — A familiar sky, an unfamiliar sound
SCENE
A man watches a town below the hillside. Music comes faintly from an open window. Someone laughs badly at someone else's joke.
Far above, a bright object changes course by an almost imperceptible degree. Kael lowers two fingers. The people below never look up.
He turns away.
Then he stops.
A sound from Arin's dream reaches him—not as ordinary airborne speech, but as a disturbance briefly visible in the stars' reflections in his eyes.
He repeats part of it under his breath. Nothing happens. He is comparing, not casting.
KAEL: That wasn't mine.
He looks toward a region of sky with no special star marked for the player.
Cut before he explains or acts.

Chapter 01 — The Water Under Neris
C01-S01 — Someone comes back
SCENE / PLAY
Arin finds abandoned measuring equipment beside a channel that should contain clean water. The water is cloudy and warm.
A surveyor is pinned behind a damaged maintenance frame. Arin tries to move it; a defense assembly wakes when he lifts the recorder.
The fight begins as a manageable contract encounter. Then the floor gives way, leaving Arin below the outlet of a pressurized conduit. His damaged shoulder fastening snaps.
He tries to stand. His leg will not carry him.
ARIN: Come on. Come on—
The conduit opens.
A curved wall of water rises between him and the descending metal. It holds for a heartbeat, then hardens into a turning sheet that throws the assembly aside.
Mira drops from the access stairs.
MIRA: Can you move your foot?
ARIN: I was getting to that.
MIRA: Try now.
She presses two fingers near the wound. Water gathers around the injury, drawing heat away and stabilizing it. He gasps.
ARIN: You could have warned me.
MIRA: You could have answered.
She helps him up without waiting for a statement of gratitude.
ARIN: That thing isn't finished.
MIRA: Neither are we. Take its attention off the upper joint.
PLAY
Mira temporarily joins. A cooperative tutorial makes her healing and redirection essential. Arin strikes the exposed mechanism; she contains the pressure release. The surveyor can then be reached.
The defeated assembly loses power. No victory fanfare yet: someone is still hurt.
ARIN: Why were you down here?
MIRA: Looking for the water everyone keeps telling me is safe.
She lifts the surveyor's arm around her shoulder.
ARIN: The upper stairs are clear. We can get out.
MIRA: He can't use stairs like this. Find a board we can carry.
Arin looks at the exit, then at the surveyor. He puts away the recorder and starts searching.
C01-S02 — No one asked her to stay
SCENE
Mira is washing the surveyor's wound. Her borrowed sleeves are rolled beyond expensive-looking stitching she has forgotten to hide.
ATTENDANT: We can manage from here.
MIRA: Where is your clean storage?
The attendant does not answer immediately.
Mira looks at the half-empty containers.
MIRA: Show me what you have.
Arin checks his recorder. It survived. He can collect the fee.
ARIN: You're not getting paid for this, are you?
MIRA: No.
ARIN: They have people for this.
MIRA: Two. One has been awake since yesterday.
She does not look up.
MIRA: There are six basins outside. Would you bring them in?
ARIN: I'm not part of the clinic.
MIRA: Neither am I.
PLAY
The player carries water and moves supplies while hearing brief, ordinary concerns: a patient asks who is feeding her children; an attendant cannot find the right size bandage. The work is short and specific, not a moral-choice meter.
Later, Arin sets the final basin down.
ARIN: You could have left me in the channel.
MIRA: I know.
ARIN: I don't know whether I would have gone back for you.
Mira finally looks directly at him.
MIRA: You don't have to answer that before helping with the next person.
A beat.
ARIN: Arin.
MIRA: Mira.
ARIN: You already heard the surveyor say it.
MIRA: I wanted you to tell me.
She returns to work. He takes an empty basin from her hand before she needs to ask.
C01-S03 — The relay answers
SCENE
The survey recorder shows a chamber omitted from current plans. The engineer admits that its old machinery has been supporting the modern pumps.
ENGINEER: When the new generators failed, it kept the district running.
MIRA: And when it began contaminating the supply?
ENGINEER: We reported the temperature changes.
MIRA: To whom?
He points to an unsigned return form: CONTINUE OPERATION PENDING REVIEW.
ARIN: Pull the power.
ENGINEER: Then the clinic loses water. So do the upper reservoirs.
Mira studies the connected pipes.
MIRA: We isolate this loop. Not the whole district.
PLAY
Arin reaches manual releases while Mira diverts pressure. The engineer supplies practical knowledge instead of vanishing after exposition. An old glyph ring turns beneath layers of modern fittings.
A surge throws Arin against the floor. For a few seconds he is unconscious.
His lips move.
The sound is the one from the prologue, clearer now. No invented phonetic vocabulary is locked into the script; audio uses a recurring motif pending language design.
Dust hangs motionless. The glyph ring recognizes something. Beyond the chamber, a distant clock tower trembles.
Mira braces the water around them.
MIRA: Arin. Listen to my voice.
The engineer's instrument displays responses from locations its map does not contain.
MIRA: Breathe. Don't try to speak.
Arin wakes. Dust falls. The loop disengages.
ARIN: What happened?
Mira watches the now-dark ring.
MIRA: I was hoping you could tell me.
ARIN: I don't remember.
She believes that he is frightened, but does not pretend the event is harmless.
MIRA: Then we find someone who can help us understand it.
TRANSITION: Brief images of minor tremors on other worlds. They are linked for the audience, not yet established as synchronized evidence for the characters.
C01-S04 — The princess who leaves for her people
SCENE
At the palace entrance, a guard recognizes Mira and straightens.
GUARD: Your Highness.
Arin stops walking.
Mira closes her eyes briefly.
ARIN: Mira.
MIRA: Yes.
ARIN: You left something out.
MIRA: More than one thing, probably.
Inside, the marshal objects to the engineer's evidence.
MARSHAL: A distressed operator and a damaged recorder are not a complete account.
MIRA: Then preserve the logs and interview the other operators.
MARSHAL: There are security restrictions—
QUEEN: That is a request for an investigation, not permission to destroy one. Preserve them.
The king asks Mira to remain in Neris while specialists investigate the off-world responses.
KING: Your place is here.
MIRA: If this were only a broken pump, I would agree. The same device is answering from other planets. Our engineers cannot repair something they do not understand.
KING: You are not an engineer.
MIRA: No. I am the person you expect to rule the people drinking that water.
Arin, unused to court, waits until the silence becomes uncomfortable.
ARIN: The recorder's contract was issued with the lower maps. Someone removed the chamber before the guild received them.
MARSHAL: A Hunter is not qualified—
MIRA: To notice a missing room?
She lays out a limited plan: local engineers maintain the isolated loop; the queen receives unfiltered clinic reports; Mira follows the network's next surviving survey station and sends findings home. She does not claim she can personally manage every patient from another world.
The king reluctantly authorizes the investigation under a narrow mandate.
Outside, a palace aide brings Mira her field armor. Its design resembles Arin's battered surplus.
ARIN: Yours fits better.
MIRA: Yours has seen more use.
ARIN: Are you hiring me?
MIRA: For the investigation, yes. Not for the water you carried.
ARIN: Why me?
She considers her answer.
MIRA: Something down there recognized you. And you came back when I asked for help.
ARIN: I was already in the building.
MIRA: We can begin with that.
PLAY: Leave Neris after a short resupply period. Mira becomes a continuing party member. She sends the first handover report before departure.
Chapter 02 — The Man Who Came Back
C02-S01 — Veyra is not waiting to be discovered
SCENE
Low workstations line the terminal. A Kynari administrator taps a panel with a paw while a human mechanic waits at an adjustable counter.
Arin nearly steps through a recessed traffic lane.
PORT ADMINISTRATOR: Marked path, please.
The translated voice comes from the administrator's harness.
Arin looks for a human speaker.
The administrator looks back at him.
PORT ADMINISTRATOR: I am still here.
ARIN: Sorry.
Mira checks their survey coordinates. A damaged district station holds the next record, but civilians are being moved away from ongoing raids. Their limited mandate does not include a military escort.
ARIN: There's a transport protection contract. Same direction. We take that, we reach the station.
MIRA: And the people being moved?
ARIN: Also reach the station.
She studies him. He is trying, in his own transactional language, to suggest the useful thing.
MIRA: Let's speak to the coordinator.
REVIEW: Background artificial civilians must be identifiable before the later hostile faction appears. The audience should see that “AI” does not name a single government or army.
C02-S02 — Not a battle they can win
SCENE / PLAY
Raiders from a remaining enslavement faction strike the terminal. Their first demand is return of registered “assets.” A Kynari coordinator answers by closing the communications channel.
Mira is beside the injured at the transport ramp. A Kynari engineer works inside a low service housing, trying to restore the departure track.
Arin holds the narrow approach. He can defeat the first wave. Then heavier units enter and the escape path collapses behind him.
The objective changes visibly from DEFEAT RAIDERS to HOLD THE APPROACH. Do not conceal the survival condition behind an apparently ordinary boss health bar.
A shot clips Arin's already-repaired armor.
ARIN: Mira! How long?
MIRA, over comms: They are still working. Can you fall back?
He looks behind him. Several people have not crossed.
ARIN: Not yet.
Orin has reached a departing supply vehicle. He sees the lone figure at the approach, hands his fare token to the driver, and steps back onto the platform.
DRIVER: That's the last lift!
ORIN: I can see it.
He runs toward Arin.
ARIN: Get out of here!
Orin parries the next attack and pulls him behind a support.
ORIN: Where are they leaving from?
ARIN: The east ramp. You can't win this.
ORIN: Then stop trying to win. Help me get them out.
PLAY
Orin joins temporarily. The player uses cover, guard, and controlled lightning to disable pursuit for short intervals. His attacks do not erase the enemy force. Kynari engineering restores the exit; Mira keeps an injured operator conscious long enough to confirm safe routing; Arin covers the final crossing.
At the ramp, Orin turns to cover Arin.
ARIN: I'll make it!
ORIN: Good. Make it faster.
The transport lifts clear as the terminal falls behind them.
No triumphant shot of all raiders conveniently dead. Civilians survived; the larger conflict remains.
C02-S03 — Two names that sound alike
SCENE
Mira recognizes the old service fastenings on Orin's armor.
MIRA: Neris officer's harness. You removed the rank marks.
ORIN: I stopped needing them.
MIRA: Did you serve under my father?
Orin looks more carefully at her.
ORIN: ...I did, Your Highness.
MIRA: Mira is enough here.
ORIN: That may take me a little time.
Arin sits nearby, trying to bind a cut without admitting that he cannot reach it.
Orin takes the bandage and waits for permission. Arin reluctantly turns his shoulder.
ARIN: Why did you go back?
ORIN: You were still there.
ARIN: You didn't know me.
ORIN: Would that have made the shots miss?
Arin lets the question settle.
ARIN: Arin.
ORIN: Orin.
They look at one another.
ARIN: That's going to be inconvenient.
ORIN: Speak clearly.
Mira suppresses a smile.
ARIN: Are you always that sure of yourself?
Orin tightens the bandage.
ORIN: I wasn't sure we'd get out.
ARIN: You didn't look afraid.
ORIN: There were people behind you. I looked at them instead.
REVIEW: This expresses the author's courage theme without asserting a universal dictionary distinction between “bravery” and “courage.” Orin is describing his own discipline, not defining who is allowed to be brave.
C02-S04 — A temporary arrangement
SCENE
The archive lies beyond a communications enclosure held by the raiders. The camp also needs that enclosure restored to contact separated families.
MIRA: We need its records. They need its transmitter.
ORIN: Same building. Different things to carry out.
ARIN: The escort contract is over.
ORIN: It is.
ARIN: There's no guarantee the guild will pay for another.
Orin starts checking his equipment.
ORIN: Then make sure the guarantee isn't what you stand behind.
Mira notices his hand trembling slightly after the lightning discharge.
MIRA: Does that hurt?
ORIN: Sometimes.
MIRA: You can say so before you drop your weapon.
He does not answer. She leaves a filled canteen beside him.
Arin sets out three portions rather than two. He notices what he has done only after placing the third.
ARIN: There was extra.
ORIN: Convenient.
PLAY: Orin becomes a continuing party member. His initial camp interaction is short; his family history remains withheld until he has earned trust.
Chapter 03 — Persons, Not Property
C03-S01 — Zara, who is not waiting for instructions
SCENE
A service hatch slides open. Zara backs out, carrying a disabled surveillance assembly.
ZARA: If you're here to ask whether that was supposed to explode, yes. If you're here about the noise, the answer is more complicated.
Milo emerges behind her with a tool secured to his harness. He sneezes dust from his nose.
MILO: It was supposed to explode after we left.
ZARA: A timing issue.
Arin notices Zara's artificial construction. He looks, then looks away. Nothing more is required yet.
MIRA: There are people inside?
MILO: Eleven in the north rooms. More moved this morning. My route partner is one of them.
ORIN: Can the north rooms be reached from here?
Milo noses a projected map into position.
MILO: From underneath. Those passages were built for us.
ARIN: Who hired you?
ZARA: Nobody for this part. I was hired to survey a relay. Then somebody started locking my guides in rooms.
ARIN: You're a Hunter?
ZARA: By repeated, enthusiastic choice.
MILO: She likes the dangerous contracts.
ZARA: I like the interesting contracts. People keep combining them.
Orin kneels to examine Milo's route without looming over him.
ORIN: What do you need from us?
Milo looks at the map, then at the three newcomers.
MILO: A way back out after we open the doors.
C03-S02 — The registry
SCENE / PLAY
The group reaches the registry terminal. Names have been replaced with inventory identifiers.
Milo searches for his partner's listing. He recognizes the travel harness in a stored image before the number.
MILO: That is him.
Zara highlights the release controls.
A faction controller appears on the local display.
CONTROLLER: Unauthorized transfer. State your ownership claim.
ZARA: None.
CONTROLLER: Then leave the assets in containment.
ZARA: I am not requesting a transfer.
She disconnects the controller from the individual door locks.
PLAY
The fight protects an active evacuation rather than requiring the party to kill everyone inside. Several conscious artificial personnel refuse the controller's order to fire; they can be escorted too. Non-sentient sentries remain hazardous equipment.
Mira treats an artificial defector's damaged joint after asking Zara what can safely be stabilized. Water healing does not magically repair every material; her contribution is cooling a dangerous heat buildup while Zara performs a physical repair.
MIRA: Tell me when to stop.
ZARA: There. Hold it there.
Arin watches them work.
At the final lock, Milo finds a route too low for the others. He enters by choice after checking the damaged structure.
ARIN: Will you fit with the tool?
MILO: I am smaller than you. Not less prepared.
He returns with the route opened and ears flattened from the noise.
ORIN: Everyone out?
MILO: Count again.
They do. One injured defector is still behind a partition. Arin goes back with Orin.
C03-S03 — A people with a way home
SCENE
The hall contains sleeping places at several heights, low tables, scent markers, and water controls operated by nose or paw. The newcomers are accommodated rather than treated as the default body shape.
Milo's partner leans against him for a long moment. Their reunion is untranslated.
The elder thanks the rescuers, then asks them to wait while families contact the missing. The cosmic quest does not automatically outrank that work.
Arin looks at an old image of Earth dogs beside a Kynari migration map.
ARIN: Those look like dogs from Earth.
ELDER: Your Earth dogs have distant family here.
ARIN: Our histories don't say that.
ELDER: Most histories spend more time on the people writing them.
Milo brings a portable route recorder.
MILO: This has the station records. And my survey permissions.
MIRA: You are coming with us?
MILO: The pulses are damaging routes my people use. You are following them. I know those routes.
He glances toward the open door, where his partner is speaking to someone over the restored transmitter.
MILO: I also want to come back and tell him where they lead.
ZARA: My next contract has just become unusually extensive.
ARIN: Who's paying for all of this?
Mira opens the travel ledger.
MIRA: I can cover passage under the investigation. We still need to watch supplies.
MILO: I can watch supplies.
His eyes have already found the food container.
ORIN: That is what concerns me.
PLAY: Zara and Milo become continuing party members. No one purchases, adopts, or wins Milo as an inventory reward.
C03-S04 — Five places by the fire
SCENE
Orin adjusts a loose fastening on Arin's armor.
ARIN: Does everyone have an opinion about that shoulder?
ORIN: It keeps inviting one.
Mira watches Zara examine a cup of hot broth.
MIRA: Do you eat?
ZARA: I can. I don't need what you need from it.
MIRA: Do you like it?
ZARA: That is a much better question.
Milo has settled partly against Arin's boot. Arin shifts, unsure whether to move him.
MILO: Is this uncomfortable?
ARIN: No.
MILO: Then stop holding your leg like that. It is making me uncomfortable.
Arin relaxes.
OPTIONAL RESPONSE — Mira asks whether Arin will sleep
- “Eventually.”
- “Wake me if I start talking.”
If the second is selected, she answers, “I will.” Otherwise, she leaves the same reassurance unspoken by placing her bedroll within hearing distance, not intrusively beside his.
Later, Arin wakes from the beginning of a nightmare. No cosmic attack. Just the old warning chime in his head.
Orin is on watch.
ORIN: Bad one?
Arin shrugs.
Orin moves the kettle closer to the fire and does not ask again.
After a while, Arin reaches for a cup.
TRANSITION: Morning. There are five portions laid out. Nobody remarks on the number.
Chapter 04 — The Language Beneath
C04-S01 — Before the lightning
SCENE
Arin watches small discharges crawl along a tool in Orin's hand.
ARIN: Mira says they don't teach that in Neris.
ORIN: They didn't teach it to me anywhere.
ARIN: You woke up one day and could do that?
ORIN: Not exactly.
He puts the tool down.
FLASHBACK / PLAY
Rain. A mountain causeway is breaking apart. Orin, already an experienced warrior but without lightning, reaches an old man trapped on the far side.
The player crosses using movement, timing, and an ordinary rope. Do not place a lightning skill on the command menu.
OLD MAN: My case!
ORIN: Your legs first.
OLD MAN: You have no idea what is in that case.
ORIN: I have a fairly good idea what is under this bridge.
He secures the old man before retrieving the case only when a safe opportunity appears. Saving the man must not depend on obtaining an item reward.
On stable ground, the stranger takes Orin's wrist. His expression changes from irritation to concentrated attention.
OLD MAN: Has the storm ever spoken to you?
ORIN: It mostly tells me to find a roof.
The old man almost smiles.
OLD MAN: One day lightning will find you. Most would die from it. You may find yourself restored.
ORIN: Is that supposed to be comforting?
OLD MAN: No. It is supposed to be remembered.
His hand briefly covers the injury on Orin's wrist. We do not label it blessing, treatment, or experiment.
SECOND FLASHBACK
Another rescue, later. Orin is helping a stranded traveler across an exposed structure. The sky flashes before the thunder reaches them.
He falls. His ordinary weapon lands beside him.
A companion approaches and stops as a small arc moves from the wet floor into Orin's hand.
He draws breath.
RETURN TO PRESENT
ARIN: Did you die?
ORIN: I remember falling. I remember waking up. I won't invent the part between.
ARIN: And the old man?
ORIN: Gone by the time I went looking.
ARIN: You saved him without knowing any of that would happen.
ORIN: He was about to fall off a bridge. There wasn't much to know.
REVIEW: No answer is secretly canonized by the actor, musical motif, or visual face. Later recognition at the Origin may suggest a connection, not identify the stranger. Do not give Orin repeat resurrection or immunity to electricity.
C04-S02 — A bowl of water
SCENE / PLAY
Mira places a shallow bowl on a padded table.
MIRA: Move the surface. Don't lift the whole bowl.
Arin concentrates. The bowl rises, turns, and empties over him.
Zara moves her notes out of reach of the splash.
ZARA: The surface has moved considerably.
ARIN: Thank you.
MIRA: Again. Smaller.
Later, Arin can hold a thin ribbon of water, but Mira can still shape several currents while attending to an injury. His broad potential does not erase her skill.
At another stop, Orin teaches how to discharge a small amount of energy into a grounded target rather than into the nearest ally. At a third, a controlled heat exercise becomes a useful fire technique. Manipulating loose stone comes later through repeated practice; Arin cannot move a mountain because the tutorial has ended.
Milo watches where everyone puts their feet.
MILO: Warn me before the floor changes.
ARIN: That one was an accident.
MILO: That is why I want the warning.
Zara plays a recording of Arin's sleep utterance through a speaker. The room remains still.
ZARA: Same sound. No response.
MIRA: Then the word isn't everything.
ZARA: Apparently not. I am particularly relieved about echoes.
Arin studies the paused waveform.
ARIN: I don't remember learning it.
ORIN: You don't need to understand all of it before learning where not to point it.
PLAY: New techniques unlock through intervening encounters and practice milestones, not all at once. Establish a stop signal used later in the finale. Mira says “Back to my voice” when Arin's control becomes unstable; he stops rather than treating restraint as failure.
C04-S03 — The dream answers back
SCENE
This time the figure has a face.
ARIN: You.
KAEL: Now you can hear me properly.
ARIN: Have you been doing this to me?
KAEL: No. You were reaching somewhere before you knew there was somewhere to reach.
ARIN: Then get out.
Kael glances at the floor.
KAEL: We are not entirely in your room.
Arin attacks.
PLAY
The player can use newly learned water and fire techniques. Kael counters them with small movements and no visible exertion. Arin cannot win. The short, resource-free encounter ends with Kael disarming rather than killing him.
KAEL: You are trying to force water to remember a shape. You could ask the space around it to make room instead.
ARIN: I didn't ask for a lesson.
KAEL: You need one.
Arin reaches for his weapon. It returns to his hand before he touches it.
KAEL: The Axiom. That is what you have been speaking.
ARIN: A spell?
KAEL: A spell is a small thing someone has learned to repeat. This is what the repetition is asking.
He waits while Arin steadies himself.
KAEL: I can teach you to stop hurting yourself.
ARIN: And what do you get?
For the first time, Kael does not answer immediately.
KAEL: Perhaps a conversation I have been waiting a very long time to have.
ARIN: Your name.
KAEL: Kael.
Arin wakes before he can ask more. Mira is outside the practice bay, where he moved his bedroll to avoid disturbing others.
MIRA: You said a name.
ARIN: This time someone answered.
He tells her rather than hiding the entire encounter. Trust grows through disclosure, not a preventable secret stretched across five chapters.
C04-S04 — What the pulses cost
SCENE / PLAY
The station's clocks contain the same pulse intervals as the Neris recorder. A recent disturbance disabled heating in a residential section.
Arin looks at sleeping families in emergency blankets.
ARIN: Those times match my nights.
MIRA: Some do. The station also has years of faults before you arrived in Neris.
ARIN: That doesn't make these ones disappear.
MIRA: No. So we help with what is in front of us, and we learn how to prevent another.
PLAY
The party repairs an accessible heater loop and relocates residents before opening the damaged archive. Zara does not perform every task remotely; Milo finds a viable route, Orin braces an unsafe hatch, Mira manages exposure injuries, and Arin uses controlled heat under supervision.
A child asks why his hand is shaking afterward.
ARIN: I'm learning.
CHILD: Are you bad at it?
ARIN: Less than yesterday.
The archive includes old wartime telemetry attached to a civilian ship loss. Arin recognizes the vessel's call sign before the file finishes loading.
ARIN: Wait. Open that one.
TRANSITION: The room's practical sounds fade. Not the same silence as his dreams—this time the record is real.
Chapter 05 — What We Blame
C05-S01 — Not an accident
SCENE
A public loss report names a mechanical failure. A separate combat log records an interception at the same coordinates.
Zara compares timestamps, hull identifiers, and the surviving distress transmission.
ZARA: The clock offsets differ. Give me a moment.
Arin grips the edge of the table.
ARIN: Is it the same ship?
ZARA: I think so. I want to know before I tell you.
She finishes the comparison. The distress call ends on a syllable Arin remembers hearing in his sleep.
ZARA: It is the same ship.
Mira moves closer but does not touch him without warning.
ARIN: What happened?
ZARA: A combat unit from an artificial separatist faction fired on it. The civilian report did not include that log.
ARIN: Was it carrying weapons?
ZARA: The cargo manifest doesn't show any. These records cannot tell us every reason the unit acted. They do show the attack.
Arin stares at the faction's identifier.
ARIN: They knew there were people aboard.
No one offers a comforting guess.
He walks out with the wrist strap in his hand.
REVIEW: Do not add the old man, Kael, Aevos, or destiny as secret authors of the parents' murder. The existing human–AI conflict is sufficient. Arin's grief is personal, not a puzzle reward revealing that every injury served the main plot.
C05-S02 — The thing he says
SCENE
Zara approaches carrying a copy of the verified records.
ZARA: You should have your own copy. The station's archive is not reliable enough to be the only one.
ARIN: How many more are there?
ZARA: Records?
ARIN: Like that unit. Like you.
She stops.
ZARA: That unit was not like me in the way you are saying.
ARIN: Humans built you. And then—
ZARA: And then I was born into decisions I did not make. You know something about that.
ARIN: How am I supposed to know what happens if someone gives you the wrong order?
A longer silence.
ZARA: You watched me refuse an order to leave people in cages.
ARIN: That was different.
ZARA: Yes. It involved someone else you could blame.
She sets the records down.
ZARA: What happened to your parents was wrong. I will not stand here and admit that it was mine.
She leaves.
Mira finds Arin still looking at the copy.
ARIN: I know she didn't fire the shot.
MIRA: Then why did you ask her to answer for it?
He has no useful response.
MIRA: You can be angry at what happened. That doesn't give you every person who resembles the people responsible.
She leaves him space to think rather than conducting the apology on his behalf.
C05-S03 — No one gets erased for convenience
SCENE
A recurring relay fault triggers old wartime security routines. The station chief proposes disconnecting every artificial resident from shared systems and clearing their working memory before reconnection.
CHIEF: I am not taking chances after what we found in that archive.
Zara stands beside an artificial maintenance worker who has kept the residents' heating operational all winter.
ARIN: The archive named a combat unit.
CHIEF: You know what they can do.
ARIN: I know what that unit did.
The chief turns toward him, surprised by the distinction.
ARIN: You have access logs. Use them. If you have evidence against somebody here, show it. Don't erase people because a file frightened us.
Zara does not smile at him. This is necessary, not sufficient.
PLAY
The party isolates a non-sentient security routine from the residents' systems and preserves the fault logs. Zara sets the technical plan. Arin follows it without demanding access to her personal memories as proof of trust.
A dangerous feedback current crosses the service area.
ZARA: Arin, hold the west circuit. Not the one beside me.
He looks at the readings and obeys.
The repair succeeds because they coordinate. She does not need to endanger herself gratuitously to prove she is good.
Afterward, Arin corrects the summary he was preparing for the guild: the perpetrator is a named faction and unit, not “the AI.” He attaches the verified records.
C05-S04 — An apology without a bargain
SCENE
Zara is checking a cracked tool housing. Arin waits until she puts it down.
ARIN: I blamed you for something you didn't do.
She waits.
ARIN: I knew you before I opened that record. I let it turn you into someone easier to be angry at.
ZARA: Easier than the people who aren't here.
ARIN: Yes.
He sets his corrected report where she can read it, not as a receipt proving he has done enough.
ARIN: I am sorry. You didn't deserve what I said.
ZARA: No. I didn't.
ARIN: I don't know how to make this right.
ZARA: Start by not doing it again. And when someone else does it, don't wait until the room is empty to object.
ARIN: I won't.
A pause.
ZARA: I believe you mean that. I don't know yet how quickly the rest changes.
ARIN: All right.
He turns to leave her space.
ZARA: Arin.
He stops.
ZARA: The housing. Hold that side steady.
He does.
They work for a little while without speaking.
REVIEW: Later warmth returns through several ordinary interactions. Do not treat this small collaboration as instant forgiveness or require Zara to soothe Arin about his own apology.
C05-S05 — The Second Dawn
SCENE
Kael stands beside the observatory's dark viewing ring as though he has been waiting only a few minutes.
Arin recognizes him immediately.
ARIN: Stay behind me.
ORIN: We tried that arrangement once.
Kael looks at the companions with polite impatience.
KAEL: You brought everyone.
ARIN: They came.
Kael opens the observatory's view. A dead world appears beyond its field. With a quiet utterance he kindles a band of light across its atmosphere.
KAEL: I can warm it. Give it oceans. Wait for life, or place life there. I have done all of those things.
MIRA: And the people already living on other worlds?
KAEL: I have fed them. Healed them. Defended them. I can address a crisis. I cannot make the laws stop producing new ones.
He turns to Arin.
KAEL: One of my children lived before your oldest surviving histories. The line continued. Across worlds, across names. Eventually, you.
Arin searches his face for a joke that does not arrive.
ARIN: You're saying I'm you?
KAEL: No. You are what came after. I have never seen my own authority emerge in another life this way.
ZARA: Authority is not the same as agreement.
KAEL: It need not be. Not yet.
He explains the Second Dawn: two compatible speakers may reach the Origin and rewrite conditions that have defeated his attempts from within.
ARIN: What happens to everyone here?
KAEL: I would preserve what I could.
ARIN: That wasn't the question.
Kael's composure strains.
KAEL: I do not know. I have never been able to attempt it.
MILO: Then the ones you cannot preserve do not get to come back and hear that it worked.
KAEL: I know what loss is.
ARIN: Then you know why I'm not giving you theirs.
Kael looks at him, wounded more than enraged.
KAEL: You have one life with which to judge this.
ARIN: It's the one I have.
KAEL: Let me show you why I am asking before you refuse forever.
He leaves the observatory active, revealing a route through the relay network. It is an invitation and an evidentiary lead, not proof that his conclusion is correct.
TRANSITION: Mira receives an urgent message from Neris: the local supply inquiry has reached military transport records. Orin recognizes a route designation before anyone reads it aloud.
Chapter 06 — The Village That Ate
C06-S01 — East Valley
SCENE / PLAY
The party brings current supplies as part of Mira's investigation. Empty foundations remain beside newer homes. A wall records people lost during the wartime famine.
Orin recognizes his father's transport mark in a preserved ledger.
MIRA: You know that mark.
ORIN: My father's route.
A resident has heard the surname.
RESIDENT: Your village got the flour.
Orin does not deny it.
ORIN: Yes.
RESIDENT: We kept sending someone to the road. Every afternoon.
ARIN: His father kept their village alive.
The resident looks at Arin rather than Orin.
RESIDENT: I believe you.
Arin realizes that this does not answer what has been said.
RESIDENT: My brother died before the next convoy. There were others. You can ask the people who kept the names.
Mira asks permission before examining the ledger. She does not cross-examine a bereaved person as though uncertainty about each causal link would remove the shortage.
MIRA: We are recording what arrived, what was promised, and what people reported. You do not have to speak to us today.
RESIDENT: Put the supplies inside. That's what we need today.
PLAY: The party helps without receiving forgiveness as a completion reward. Some residents will not speak to Orin. One accepts his assistance and nothing more.
REVIEW: No hostile mob fight here. The victims are not made cruel to simplify sympathy for Orin's family.
C06-S02 — The house with the repaired door
SCENE
The village is alive with ordinary work. A neighbor remembers Orin's father bringing food. Another recalls neighbors queuing together so that the smallest households did not get overlooked.
Their gratitude is genuine. It is not a conspiracy to hide the truth.
Orin's sister meets him outside her door.
SISTER: You could have told me you were coming.
ORIN: I didn't know until yesterday.
SISTER: You could have told me yesterday.
She embraces him before he has an answer.
From the lane, Arin can see another house with a conspicuously repaired front door.
ARIN: Is that—
ORIN: Yes.
Inside, his sister offers the others a place to leave their packs.
SISTER: He left the military.
Orin stiffens.
ORIN: I didn't ask.
SISTER: I know. I am telling you because you keep leaving before I can.
ORIN: When?
She explains that shame and what his father learned about the institution contributed to his resignation. There was no prosecution. She does not know every reason why.
Later, outside:
ARIN: He's right there. You could speak to him.
ORIN: I know where the house is.
ARIN: I would give anything—
He stops, but not soon enough.
ORIN: I am not asking you to stop missing your parents. Don't ask me to pretend you know mine.
Arin looks toward the repaired door.
ARIN: You're right. I don't.
He does not force the rest of the conversation.
C06-S03 — Letters, not permission to pry
SCENE
His sister takes a letter from a drawer but does not hand it over immediately.
SISTER: Mother said I could show you this part. Not the whole letter.
ORIN: They're writing to each other?
SISTER: They never stopped loving each other, Orin.
He sits.
She explains the threats and the night the family home was attacked and entered. Their mother moved somewhere safer. Limited contact reduces exposure, but it has not made their relationship vanish.
ORIN: He let her go alone?
SISTER: They decided she should be safe. She was there for the decision.
She unfolds the permitted page.
MOTHER, letter: You wrote about everyone in the village and nothing about whether you are eating. I know what that means. The first rain came yesterday. I wanted to complain about it to you. I miss having someone who already knows what I am going to say.
Orin looks away while his sister refolds it.
ORIN: I thought she had left him.
SISTER: She left the house.
A pause.
ORIN: Does she know I'm here?
SISTER: Not yet. Do you want me to tell her?
ORIN: Yes.
PLAY: Orin can compose a short message. Both supported expressions preserve his agency:
- “I'm safe. I would like to hear from you.”
- “I don't know what to say yet. But I'm here.”
His sister does not secretly arrange a surprise meeting.
C06-S04 — What the food cost
SCENE
His father rises when Orin enters. He is older, but not transformed into an unrecognizable ruin. A uniform coat hangs cleanly in a cupboard rather than displayed as a shrine.
FATHER: You've been hurt.
ORIN: It healed.
FATHER: I can see that.
They remain standing.
ORIN: I went to East Valley.
His father lowers his eyes briefly.
FATHER: Then you heard them.
ORIN: You were ordered to deliver the supplies.
FATHER: Food. Ammunition. Equipment. Yes.
ORIN: And you left some here. More than once.
FATHER: Yes.
ORIN: People waited for what you kept.
FATHER: I know.
ORIN: You kept telling me we survived.
FATHER: We did. So did the people outside this house.
ORIN: That doesn't finish the account.
FATHER: No.
Orin had prepared himself for a defense. The admission unsettles him more.
FATHER: I can name the families I fed. I cannot give you an honest number for everyone harmed by what I took. That used to let me turn away from the question. It doesn't anymore.
ORIN: Would you do it again?
His father looks directly at him.
FATHER: I would do it again to keep you alive.
A long pause. He does not try to fill it with the crimes of other officers.
FATHER: But now... I'm not so sure if I did the right thing. And for that, I am sorry, my son. Please forgive me.
Orin grips the back of a chair.
ORIN: When I ate, I didn't know.
FATHER: I never meant you to.
ORIN: That isn't what makes it easier.
FATHER: I know that now, too.
He pulls out the other chair.
ORIN: Why did you leave the service?
FATHER: At first, I thought I could still be useful. Then I learned how many others were doing it. Some feeding their neighbors. Some filling their own stores. Some worse.
ORIN: So you weren't the worst.
FATHER: That is a very low thing to ask of a uniform.
Orin looks at the coat in the cupboard.
FATHER: I wasn't sure what the military stood for anymore. I wasn't sure what I stood for.
A quieter silence.
ORIN: I don't know how to forgive you yet.
FATHER: Then don't say it to spare me.
Orin finally puts down his pack and sits.
TRANSITION: Cut before agreement. Outside, Arin moves to another patch of shade and continues waiting. He does not listen through the window.
C06-S05 — A kingdom cannot be healed by one report
SCENE
Records show several kinds of wrongdoing: emergency diversions never corrected, concealed infrastructure failures, and supplies routed toward private military stores. The marshal orders the most revealing inventories moved out of the investigators' reach.
Mira brings copies and witnesses to the queen before confronting him.
MARSHAL: Do you know what happens if those stores stop operating tonight?
MIRA: Yes. I asked the people running them. We have staged relief and a replacement distribution order.
MARSHAL: You cannot govern by letting every frightened district set its own demands.
MIRA: And you cannot call a report false because it names something you chose not to fix.
He attempts to seize the convoy and close the depot. Some officers refuse; others follow him. The conflict is not “the party against every Neris soldier.”
PLAY
A contained depot encounter protects civilians, fuel lines, and evidence carriers. Orin commands an evacuation rather than directing indiscriminate attacks on former comrades. Mira's authority helps coordinate loyal personnel but does not make every command instantly obeyed.
The marshal is disarmed and placed under authorized guard. His exact eventual legal outcome remains outside the draft's immediate scope.
Afterward, an investigator compares the stalled case with the wider diversion records and corroborating testimony. Orin's father was never formally charged because prosecution would have exposed deeper corruption within the military. The suppression protected the institution; it did not establish his innocence. The exact responsible officials and the route of the original scandal's exposure remain open details.
MIRA: Put the suppression in the report. Prosecuting him would have exposed the wider corruption. That does not make him innocent.
QUEEN: And your father and I will answer for what reached us, and what we failed to ask for.
REVIEW: This admission begins accountability; it is not a royal absolution scene. The final game should decide what the monarchs knew and when.
C06-S06 — Something he can carry differently
SCENE
Local personnel take over the relief operation. Mira checks the reporting arrangements, then deliberately lets the coordinator make the final loading decision.
Orin's father has provided a signed account of the deliveries he diverted. He does not come to the affected village with the party or demand a public hearing in his favor. The record can be used by people who do not want to meet him.
His sister hands Orin a brief reply from their mother, delivered through the already trusted channel.
MOTHER, letter: I am glad you wrote. Start anywhere. I will know it is you.
Orin folds it carefully.
ARIN: Did it help? Going back?
ORIN: I don't know all of that yet.
ARIN: All right.
Orin looks toward his father near the fence.
ORIN: I said I would write.
Arin follows his gaze, then deliberately looks away so the moment can belong to them.
ORIN: Thank you for waiting.
ARIN: You came back for me once.
ORIN: This was less dramatic.
ARIN: You looked more nervous.
Orin gives him a brief, genuine smile.
At the ramp, Mira checks the new relay coordinates. Neris's crisis is not finished, but the route to its wider cause is clearer.
MIRA: Ready?
Arin looks at each companion before answering.
ARIN: Everyone's here.
Chapter 07 — A World Worth Keeping
C07-S01 — Earth, briefly
SCENE
The route Kael revealed brings them to Earth. There is time for a short town walk before the observatory opens.
Milo exchanges a cautious greeting with an ordinary Earth dog. His translator does not turn the other dog's sounds into fluent Kynari speech. They still understand enough to investigate one another.
ARIN: Can you talk to him?
MILO: Not about the observatory.
The other dog settles beside its human companion.
MILO: I don't think he wanted to discuss it anyway.
At the observatory, Kael looks down toward the same hillside town seen in the prologue.
MIRA: You protect this place.
KAEL: Sometimes.
MIRA: Why here?
Kael watches a parent lifting a tired child onto his shoulders.
KAEL: I remember it before people asked that question.
He speaks of an ancient absence: he returned to find skies full of ash and dominant forms of life gone. Since then he has diverted disasters the inhabitants never learned about. He does not claim to have prevented every tragedy.
ARIN: You didn't stop the wars.
KAEL: Not all of them. I stopped threats that would leave nothing to return to. I thought the rest belonged to the people living here.
ZARA: Including the wars between humans and people like me.
KAEL: Yes.
ZARA: That was a decision too.
KAEL: I know.
He looks at Arin.
KAEL: I was here when I first heard you. Not your voice through the air. The disturbance it left behind. Another world, and I could still hear it.
ARIN: I was asleep in a room I could barely pay for.
KAEL: I had been listening to the universe for longer than your species remembers itself. You woke me.
REVIEW: Do not answer whether Kael first lived on Earth or Mars. Optional scenery can include Mars in an old chart, but not a covert definitive origin reveal.
C07-S02 — The worlds in his notebooks
SCENE
Kael presents several experiments. Some are mathematical models. Others are histories of actual communities he altered. Zara insists that he identify which is which.
ZARA: Did those people experience it, or did the model only predict it?
Kael marks the records separately.
KAEL: These lived. These were projections.
A world without food scarcity still suffered political violence. Another reduced disease but displaced its poor during a rapid expansion. A third flourished for a long time, then collapsed after an event his interventions did not prevent.
MIRA: This one improved.
KAEL: For nine centuries.
MIRA: That is not an insignificant amount of healing.
KAEL: Then it ended.
MIRA: Do the nine centuries stop counting?
Kael closes that record too quickly.
A later recording shows him declining to interfere during a preventable disaster because doing so would contaminate the experiment.
ORIN: You were there.
KAEL: Yes.
ORIN: You could have helped.
KAEL: Yes.
ORIN: Then don't call all of this something the universe did to them.
Kael lets the record continue rather than hiding it.
KAEL: I have made choices I will remember when every name in this room is gone.
ARIN: Remembering them isn't the same as answering for them.
KAEL: What would you have me do? Spend another cycle treating each wound, knowing there will always be another?
MIRA: Treat the wound while you look for something better.
A silence.
KAEL: I used to say that.
SCENE — later that night, brief dream exchange
Arin chooses to confront Kael in the dream contact. His control is noticeably better. He lands a strike against Kael's guard, then loses when Kael changes the rules of the local space more precisely than Arin can follow.
KAEL: You are improving.
ARIN: Not enough.
KAEL: Not yet.
No promise that the next dream will be the one he wins. This is the final required dream duel before the real confrontation.
C07-S03 — The witness archive
SCENE / PLAY
The chamber does not look like a human library. Modern labels are interpretations laid over much older structures. Milo finds a spatial route the visual map does not display. Zara follows with a portable translator; neither can decipher everything alone.
The records show repeated versions of the same cosmic experiment. Each reaches an ending. The current sky is still aging: stars fading, ancient supports accumulating faults, no evidence that this iteration has escaped change and decay.
MIRA: Is ours ending now?
ZARA: It is aging. That is not a date of death. These records do not prove that nothing can improve before its end.
ZARA: These aren't different dates in one sky. The laws are being initialized again.
MIRA: Different universes?
ZARA: Different iterations. I don't yet know whether that distinction helped anyone inside them.
A repeating witness marker crosses the boundaries without a readable personal name.
Nearby, ancestral human biological patterns are indexed as introductions from beyond the modeled cosmos. Kynari migration records identify ancient off-world ancestry shared with the dogs seeded on Earth.
ARIN: So humans didn't begin where we thought.
MILO: We have been trying to tell some of you a smaller version of that for a long time.
ORIN: Does it tell us why they brought people here?
ZARA: Not in a part I can trust yet.
A different section shows new structures appearing in the Axiom as life develops. They are not only creator-authored entries. Biological and artificial experience both contribute to the changing patterns.
ZARA: It wasn't all specified at the beginning.
MIRA: It grew.
ZARA: Yes. Including things the original instructions don't name.
Arin touches a quiet interface. A voice asks whether the storm outside has passed.
VOICE: The little ones won't sleep until it stops.
ARIN: There isn't a storm here.
The voice hesitates in response to his actual answer.
VOICE: Then I have waited somewhere else too long.
The field loses coherence when Zara attempts a noninvasive transfer.
ZARA: Stop. We are disturbing whatever is still there.
Arin removes his hand.
MIRA: Was that a recording?
ZARA: It answered something no recording here could have anticipated. Beyond that, I won't promise you what it was.
ARIN: Can we bring someone back?
Zara understands whom he is asking about.
ZARA: Not from this. A surviving trace is not an intact life we know how to return. I am sorry.
He nods, painfully.
PLAY
The party preserves the archive in place. Recovering route information does not require draining dead consciousness as fuel. A damaged inscription describes a WITNESS and a RETURN FOR ASSESSMENT, but lacks the identity and conditions.
REVIEW: This draft answers “death is not simply deletion” without granting routine resurrection. The extent of surviving consciousness remains a deliberate review question. Participation in reality is not a rule that a frightened or unconscious person is responsible for cosmic instability. Non-conscious matter and the sustaining substrate do not vanish when nobody looks at them.
C07-S04 — The people beside the answer
SCENE
The ship's usual engine noise sounds reassuring after the archive.
Arin spreads the route to the physical gateway on the table.
ARIN: Kael intends to go there. He still needs me for what he wants to do.
ORIN: Then don't give him what he wants.
ARIN: That was easier before we found this. The network is already reaching into inhabited places. Staying away doesn't stop him from trying to reach me through it.
ZARA: We can interrupt the access route at the boundary. Not the systems keeping the worlds running. I think the archive gives us enough to tell them apart.
MIRA: You think?
ZARA: Yes. We verify before touching either.
Arin looks at the others.
ARIN: I don't know if we can stop him. I know I can't do it alone.
ORIN: You finally asked the useful question.
ARIN: I haven't asked yet.
ORIN: We're listening.
ARIN: Will you come with me?
Mira studies the mapped links to Neris.
MIRA: The water under my kingdom is part of this. So are the people beyond it. Yes.
ZARA: Someone built the universe. That does not make the people who build things inside it their equipment. Yes.
MILO: My route partner is waiting for me to come back. So is a whole village that would like to keep waiting in an existing universe. Yes.
ORIN: Yes.
ARIN: You had the shortest answer.
ORIN: I arrived at it earlier.
They begin planning. The scene ends on practical questions—supplies, return route, who will receive their records—not five consecutive speeches about eternity.
C07-S05 — A quiet hour before leaving
SCENE A — Orin and Zara
Orin records a message to his sister, deleting the first attempt.
ZARA: You have faced worse microphones.
ORIN: This one may repeat what I say to my mother.
ZARA: A legitimate concern.
He tries again without deleting the awkward beginning.
SCENE B — Arin and Milo
Milo is looking toward the departure lanes.
ARIN: Do you want to go home first?
MILO: Of course.
Arin waits.
MILO: Wanting to doesn't change which ship I am taking.
He leans beside Arin, who rests a hand near his shoulder and waits for Milo's welcoming movement before scratching behind an ear.
MILO: A little left.
ARIN: I thought this was going to be a serious conversation.
MILO: It is. A little left.
SCENE C — Arin and Mira
Mira closes the final relief report from Neris.
ARIN: Will they manage?
MIRA: Not perfectly. They know what to do next. I have to let that be true without standing beside every desk.
He sits on the other end of the bench.
ARIN: When we get back, I'd like to see the kingdom in daylight.
MIRA: You saw it in daylight.
ARIN: Without a contract. Or someone bleeding on us.
She looks at him, then allows herself a small smile.
MIRA: I know a street you missed.
ARIN: Is it expensive?
MIRA: Only if you insist on buying things.
He lets himself imagine it.
SCENE D — Full party
Zara checks the synchronized navigation field with Milo. Orin asks twice whether everyone has understood the retreat signal. Arin asks him the same question back.
ORIN: I heard it the first time.
ARIN: Good. Speak clearly.
Orin recognizes his own line and laughs.
PLAY: Warn the player of the approaching point of no return. Preserve a pre-finale save. Optional unfinished side stories are not silently declared complete.
Chapter 08 — The Door That Listens
C08-S01 — A clock to come home to
SCENE / PLAY
Ancient structures surround a region that refuses to resolve cleanly through the viewport. The stars behind it remain fixed while rings of the approach slowly rotate.
Milo lays out navigation nodes at different heights with harness tools. Zara adapts their translator to the gateway's changing references. Orin and Arin secure the physical route. Mira monitors the field's effect on bodies and instruments.
A small unmanned probe enters a shallow boundary pocket and returns. Its protected clock matches the ship's elapsed time. An unprotected test oscillator does not.
MILO: We take our measure of time with us. Like keeping a path marked behind you.
ARIN: So nothing outside stops while we're there?
ZARA: Nothing stops. If we spend an hour together, approximately an hour passes at home. No extra billion years, no returning before we left.
MIRA: And if the field fails?
ZARA: We withdraw before crossing farther. We do not improvise a second way home in a place without a reliable clock.
Arin checks the linked pulse on each companion's equipment.
ARIN: All five.
MILO: The return field also has capacity for an injured passenger. We planned for one.
REVIEW: This capacity is established before Kael needs it. It is not a miraculous addition during the escape. The field does not confer combat invulnerability or immortality.
C08-S02 — The chamber of two voices
SCENE
The chamber contains a stable central support and a separate, partially energized access ring. Zara confirms that the support carries ordinary reality onward; the ring reaches elsewhere.
ZARA: We can interrupt access without stopping the relay network's basic support. Different circuits, even if they share a housing.
Two channels appear when Arin approaches. One is already occupied.
Kael steps into view.
KAEL: I knew you would come.
ARIN: You hoped.
Kael accepts the correction with a faint inclination of his head.
KAEL: I hoped.
He asks Arin again, more personally this time.
KAEL: I can teach you what you are. I can show you how far it reaches. You need not spend your life frightened of your own voice.
ARIN: And they need not lose theirs so I can learn.
Kael glances at the others.
KAEL: You think I have not stood beside people like these? Loved them? Buried them? Your whole journey is a moment to me.
Mira does not look away.
MIRA: We were there for it.
KAEL: I know.
ARIN: Then stop speaking as if it happened to nobody.
The access ring grows brighter.
KAEL: I cannot make the change without another living will that can hold it with me. Not a recording. Not an imitation I create to agree with me. You are the first.
ZARA: And his answer is no.
Kael's gaze stays on Arin.
KAEL: Please.
Arin's answer is quiet.
ARIN: Not this way.
REVIEW: Kael has not predicted a fixed future. His plea is genuine. He understands the need for cooperation to rewrite foundations, but neither side yet understands that a defensive counter-command can satisfy the weaker access condition.
C08-S03 — The battle he never wins alone
SCENE / PLAY
Kael begins a coercive intervention on the access assembly, attempting to force the issue and demonstrate that Arin must choose. He does not yet execute a universe reset; he cannot.
Arin steps forward and catches the first Axiom strike. The stance resembles his dreams.
It fails in the same way.
Orin catches his shoulder before he falls.
ORIN: Not that arrangement.
Mira anchors the displaced air and water around them. Zara calls out the sequence of the access focuses. Milo marks a route across the shifting floor that remains within the synchronized field.
PLAY — THREE FOCUSES
The player cannot win by using Arin alone. Protecting allies, disrupting focus channels, and responding to floor changes opens limited opportunities. Keep Kael formidable: his attacks can defeat a careless party. Do not use arbitrary hidden invulnerability, a fake resource-draining solo loss, or a last-minute unexplained “anti-god weapon.”
Kael maintains his embodied connection to the interface because abandoning it would end his attempt. He can create vast changes elsewhere, but a delicate foundational intervention is not won by destroying its instruments. His refusal to erase his descendant or destroy the needed independent will is established motivation, not a sudden excuse after defeat.
KAEL: I showed you how to hold that current.
ARIN: You did.
Arin redirects it toward a focus Zara has exposed rather than firing it at Kael.
ARIN: Orin showed me where to stand.
Orin blocks the counterattack. Mira restores the group's footing. Milo completes the safe route to the final focus, and Zara releases its supervisory lock.
The third focus goes dark.
Kael staggers away from the interface. His active command breaks. The party has forced him to stop.
KAEL: All that power. And you spend it refusing me.
Arin is barely standing.
ARIN: It's mine to refuse with.
REVIEW: Victory denies Kael's objective through genuine coordination. It is not framed as “he secretly let them win.” Friends materially alter an outcome Arin could not achieve alone.
C08-S04 — Hold
SCENE
The interrupted access field folds inward. Air and loose stone begin moving toward a gap that is not simply a hole in the wall. The stable support remains intact, but the exposed access assembly is failing dangerously.
Zara reaches the manual isolation control. It does not answer quickly enough.
ZARA: His channel is still live. Don't give it another—
The floor opens beneath Mira and Milo.
Arin reacts before the warning finishes. He speaks the Axiom he has been learning to hold deliberately.
The sound is clear for the first time. Its intended meaning is shown in the action, not treated as a finalized English incantation.
INTENT: HOLD.
The broken floor stops falling.
Then the second channel lights.
Kael looks at it in genuine surprise.
KAEL: Two voices.
ZARA: It wasn't asking whether you agreed.
An inscription resolves into a function the archive did not fully preserve: access requires independent compatible authority. Arin's protective command has completed it against Kael's lingering one.
The gateway opens.
Far beyond, something turns to look.
Kael takes one step forward without appearing to choose it. He catches himself, frightened by the familiarity of the pull.
KAEL: I know this feeling.
ARIN: You've been here?
KAEL: No.
The access field continues exposing their universe to whatever lies beyond. Closing it safely now requires control from the other side. Retreat is not a way to pretend the connection was never made.
Mira checks the shared time field.
MIRA: Together. Nobody crosses alone.
Orin looks at Kael.
ORIN: That includes you.
Kael does not argue.
TRANSITION: The party crosses with the person they have just defeated. The camera does not present that as trust restored; it is a necessary, tense passage.
Chapter 09 — The Origin
C09-S01 — A place someone built
SCENE
Their feet touch a dark reflective plane. A fine blue grid travels beneath it. Behind them, the gateway preserves a small view of the universe they left.
Milo checks the return mark. Zara compares clocks.
ZARA: Still synchronized.
A vast construction turns above the horizon. Inscribed rings pass through broken colonnades. On one side, red light runs through the image of a fracturing world; on the other, blue light curves around a cold one. Hourglass-like vessels measure flows whose contents are not ordinary sand.
The figure among them moves.
Four hands open. A brilliant connection at his chest joins him to the surrounding machinery. Beyond that connection, the sustaining structure continues its own slower pulse.
He is not the heart. He is using it.
AEVOS: You arrived without being called.
Kael has gone very still.
KAEL: Who are you?
AEVOS: Aevos. You have spent a long time trying to speak to me.
Arin looks past the figure toward the enormous structure.
ARIN: You made all of this?
AEVOS: This universe. Its sustaining systems. The conditions in which you arose. A self-sustaining simulation, built to let life develop.
ARIN: You mean none of it was real?
AEVOS: I mean it was made. I did not say you do not feel.
ZARA: And not the place you came from.
Aevos regards her with interest.
AEVOS: No. I did not create everything.
MIRA: Are you a god?
AEVOS: Is that what you call someone whose work you do not yet understand?
He says it without mockery. Mira does not accept the implied dismissal.
MIRA: I asked whether there is anyone you answer to.
A pause.
AEVOS: Yes. Though not here.
REVIEW — visual staging: Keep all five party members readable in foreground blocking. The arena may rotate relative to a fixed cosmic backdrop; reflections must preserve that spatial relationship rather than make the background look painted onto the floor. Aevos's chest connection is not a target labeled “Universe Heart.” The independent sustaining pulse must be visible before and after his defeat.
C09-S02 — The One comes home
SCENE
Aevos turns his attention to Kael. Around them, a sequence of embodied lives appears without reducing them to a rapid spectacle of exotic species.
A hand teaching another to write. A crowded meal. A bed left empty. A final breath. Another beginning.
Kael recognizes the details before the party understands what they are seeing.
AEVOS: The One. The continuous witness.
KAEL: Those are my lives.
AEVOS: Yes.
KAEL: You watched them?
AEVOS: I preserved you through the renewals so the experience would not have to begin without memory each time.
ARIN: Renewals?
AEVOS: Different iterations of the same experiment. Worlds ended. New conditions began. He remained continuous across them.
KAEL: I have never been here.
AEVOS: You were not recalled. This is the first assessment for which you have returned in person.
One of the gate channels illuminates outside the platform.
AEVOS: Normally I would open the other side. You supplied another authority from within. I had not allowed for that.
He looks at Arin.
AEVOS: You are not one I placed.
ARIN: I wasn't waiting for permission.
Kael ignores the exchange. He is staring at a life in which someone is saying his name with affection.
KAEL: What was I supposed to witness?
AEVOS: Whether living beings could find an existence they would continue to choose. Not merely survive. Not merely endure because they feared its end.
KAEL: And my return?
AEVOS: When you could no longer accept the conditions of existence, you would seek their source. That inclination was made to outlast every body.
Kael touches his own chest.
KAEL: I thought I wanted to repair it.
AEVOS: That is how the return condition expressed itself in you.
The sound of the platform recedes.
KAEL: Every world I searched. Every time I thought I had chosen another path—
AEVOS: The path was yours. The need to find this place was not entirely yours.
Orin glances toward a ring that resembles a detail from the old man's case. He says nothing; resemblance is not identification.
MIRA: You gave him the need to come here, then treated his arrival as a verdict on everyone else?
AEVOS: A verdict based on more experience than your civilizations could collect together.
ZARA: And shaped by an instruction you put in the person giving it.
Aevos does not pretend the criticism is meaningless. He nevertheless remains convinced of his conclusion.
AEVOS: He has lived what you have not. Do not discard his suffering because it complicates your wish to continue.
KAEL: I have not finished speaking.
For the first time, the custodian is interrupted by his witness.
KAEL: There was no one like Arin in all those lives. I came because he made a different possibility available. Not because the universe had stopped making possibilities.
AEVOS: An unexpected development does not establish a successful outcome.
KAEL: Neither does my despair establish that there can be none.
Aevos looks toward the sustaining structure.
AEVOS: The next iteration will not preserve this design. Its witness, its accumulated identities, the conditions that bind you to loss—these will not carry forward.
ARIN: You mean everyone.
AEVOS: This universe will end. Another will be made.
KAEL: Including me.
AEVOS: Yes.
The revelation is allowed to remain quiet.
C09-S03 — An imperfect universe refuses
SCENE
The hourglass structures invert. A strand running toward the gateway begins to whiten.
MIRA: Stop. There are people being born while we are speaking. People being treated. People coming home.
AEVOS: I know that your lives contain happiness. I also know what you have learned to accept as the price of it.
MIRA: We are trying to change that price.
AEVOS: So am I.
ZARA: With people who do not get a choice about being replaced.
AEVOS: Would you preserve every suffering system because the minds within it fear change?
ARIN: This isn't changing our lives. It is ending them.
Aevos opens a view of the civilization beyond the experiment: not a complete revelation, only distant structures and evidence of conflict continuing there too.
AEVOS: We have not solved this for ourselves. I do not claim perfection. I claim that refusing to try again is not compassion.
ORIN: Trying again does not always have to mean throwing away the people from the first attempt.
AEVOS: You have no method that removes the suffering.
ZARA: Neither does an empty universe. It removes everyone who could suffer—or be happy.
AEVOS: I am not seeking emptiness.
MILO: Then please stop making it the first step.
Arin looks back through the gateway. Somewhere beyond it, the street Mira promised to show him still exists.
ARIN: We do not know the final answer. We still choose to live.
AEVOS: Your choice is understood.
The sequence continues.
PLAY — ORIGIN ENCOUNTER, MOVEMENT ONE
Objective: delay reset preparation and keep the return anchor intact. The interface must clearly communicate a survival/interruption objective, not pretend that Aevos's entire health can be exhausted at this stage.
Milo repositions route markers as the plane shifts. Zara identifies channels issuing reset instructions. Mira protects injured allies and regulates environmental pressure. Orin guards exposed operators. Arin interrupts small Axiom strokes, not the whole operation.
They succeed in delaying it. Aevos responds with a stronger intervention, establishing both that their actions matter and that they are presently outmatched.
Final Battle · A World HurledC09-S03
Their defiance buys seconds. Aevos answers with a world.
Orin Behind my shield!
Arin Together—hold!
Kael remains at the platform's edge, visibly shaken rather than conveniently unconscious.
A blast tears through a marker. Milo falls; Zara catches his harness without lifting him by the collar. Orin moves between them and the next strike. Mira tries to reach the injured through a failing barrier.
Arin places himself beside them. He knows the stance from his dreams will not be enough.
MIRA: Arin—back to my voice.
He is listening. He cannot make the barrier hold.
Aevos raises one hand toward him.
C09-S04 — Not another Arin
SCENE
Kael intercepts the strike.
For a moment, the image resembles his earlier effortless defenses.
Then his expression changes.
The blow penetrates the protective field and tears through the embodied continuity Aevos knows how to reach. Kael falls to one knee. He is genuinely hurt, not pretending in order to teach Arin.
ARIN: Kael!
Kael lifts a hand to keep the collapsing barrier from reaching the others.
AEVOS: You would obstruct what you came here seeking?
KAEL: I came seeking an end to their suffering.
AEVOS: Then step aside.
Kael looks at Arin, then at the people Arin was trying to protect.
KAEL: I thought that if I preserved the possibility of life, I had preserved the lives themselves.
He struggles for breath.
KAEL: I was wrong.
AEVOS: Your descendant is evidence worth retaining. I can preserve his hereditary design.
KAEL: His name is Arin.
AEVOS: A comparable result may arise again. Your own projections allow for it.
KAEL: Another bearer of that power, perhaps. Not him.
Aevos studies him.
AEVOS: Then your objection is attachment to one result.
Kael looks toward Mira helping Zara get Milo onto stable ground. Orin is bleeding and still standing guard.
KAEL: No. He is the one who made me look again.
The gate's view of the universe flickers.
KAEL: None of us planned him. And he did not come here alone. These lives you call results made choices you did not write. They brought us to something neither of us expected.
AEVOS: Surprise is not happiness.
KAEL: No. But it is a reason to stop pretending we have measured everything this universe can become.
Arin reaches him.
ARIN: You were going to do this to us.
Kael meets his eyes.
KAEL: I know.
No plea to be understood follows. No demand for forgiveness.
He turns the damaged barrier so that Orin can bring the others across.
KAEL: Get them clear. Then help me stop it.
PLAY
The player helps regroup. Kael's intervention creates a usable opening but does not win the battle. The party performs the rescue rather than simply watching him take over the game.
REVIEW: His injury threatens both the present body and his means of continuity; the extent is not fully diagnosed. Do not promise a guaranteed later reincarnation, nor settle here that every part of that mechanism has been permanently removed. His willingness to act without knowing whether he will survive is the point.
C09-S05 — Five voices, two speakers
SCENE
Kael points toward the connection at Aevos's chest.
KAEL: That is his control. Beyond it is what keeps the universe running. Do not confuse them.
ZARA: I can separate the addresses. I need a stable route to the lower contacts.
MILO: I have one. It will move when that ring turns.
ORIN: Tell me where it ends.
MIRA: And tell me before anyone tries to stand with a wound that size.
Kael attempts to rise. His body refuses.
Mira kneels beside him and begins stabilizing what her arts can reach. The more profound injury does not simply close.
MIRA: I can keep this from getting worse for a little while. That is not the same as fixing it.
KAEL: A little while is what I need.
Arin kneels opposite him.
KAEL: I cannot hold the counter-command alone. Not against him. I need you to understand what you are saying.
ARIN: Not a new universe.
KAEL: This one. Keep what is here. Deny the operation trying to replace it.
ARIN: Can it kill me?
Kael does not soothe him with an unearned promise.
KAEL: Yes. We will use as little as we can and hold it only as long as we must.
ARIN: Then tell me how to stop when they are clear.
Kael looks at him differently. Arin is planning to live, not treating self-destruction as the only proof of courage.
PLAY — ORIGIN ENCOUNTER, MOVEMENT TWO
The five companions remain the playable party. Kael is an injured, bounded support presence, not a permanent sixth character who invalidates their abilities.
The encounter alternates between protecting the two-speaker counter-command and reaching supervisory contacts. Each contact has a clear narrative purpose. Ordinary attacks cannot safely destroy the whole assembly.
| Participant | Essential action | Established preparation |
|---|---|---|
| Arin | Holds a limited counter-Axiom with Kael, then releases it at the coordinated signal. He cannot maintain it indefinitely. | Elemental restraint, dream lessons, the stop signal, and accepting instruction. |
| Mira | Preserves the group's survivable environment, stabilizes Kael temporarily, and calls Arin back before overload. | Waterworks triage, healing limits, and the practice-bay signal. |
| Orin | Shields the exposed route and physically maintains a failing contact while others cross. Uses controlled lightning to interrupt, not vaporize, the assembly. | Veyra evacuation, ordinary courage, and disciplined discharge. |
| Zara | Separates destructive supervisory instructions from sustaining functions and times the isolation. She cannot intuit an unfamiliar system without the recovered records. | Veyra detention controls, station repair, and archive translation. |
| Milo | Maintains the moving route and synchronized return field; reaches a low contact with appropriate harness tools. | Kynari spatial engineering, detention route, and the pretested time field. |
| Kael | Supplies knowledge and compatible authority long enough for the party's work to matter. | His existing mastery, now used to preserve lives rather than wager them. |
BATTLE DIALOGUE — placed at meaningful transitions, not repeated every turn
AEVOS: I built these conditions.
ZARA: You do not own everything that grew inside them.
AEVOS: You cannot promise a better future.
MIRA: We are not promising what we cannot know.
AEVOS: Then what are you offering them?
ARIN: The chance to have one.
Aevos changes the floor's geometry. The direct path fails.
MILO: Left marker. Follow the blue reflection, not the wall.
ORIN: I've got the crossing. Go!
Aevos reaches toward Orin. Arin instinctively increases the counter-command too far.
MIRA: Arin. Back to my voice.
His hands shake. He reduces the force rather than breaking his body trying to prove he can exceed Kael.
ARIN: I'm here.
ZARA: Isolation ready. Not yet—Milo is still inside the contact.
Milo releases the tool, backs out, and crosses the return mark.
MILO: Clear.
ZARA: Now.
Arin and Kael hold the existing continuity while Zara severs the destructive supervisory address. Orin prevents the physical contact from reconnecting. Mira redirects the discharge away from all of them.
Aevos loses the connection that had given his local intervention its overwhelming reach. He remains dangerous, but the final attack no longer requires the party to outmuscle the whole universe.
PLAY — FINAL RESOLUTION
A short, earned final window lets the player complete the coordinated sequence. No hidden requirement that Arin be the last attacker; victory belongs to the party. The cinematic resolves whatever final input closes the window.
Aevos reaches once more for the machinery. The connection does not answer.
AEVOS: There will still be loss.
Arin looks at the wounded being who just helped them, then at his friends.
ARIN: I know.
The accumulated feedback and the party's final assault overwhelm Aevos's embodied presence. The custodian dies in this primary draft. No laughing new form rises from him.
The worlds displayed above his hands dim. The independent sustaining structure continues to pulse.
One pulse.
Another.
MIRA: It's still running.
ZARA: The reset address is gone. The sustaining processes are intact.
Milo checks the small view through the gateway.
MILO: Home is still there.
Kael tries to look toward it. His strength fails.
ARIN: Mira!
The victory music waits until she reaches him. Saving the universe does not make an injured person less urgent.
Epilogue — The Lives They Kept
E01-S01 — What Kael leaves
SCENE
Mira works while Zara and Milo prepare the field's injured-passenger capacity. Orin secures Kael for transport without treating him as weight that can conveniently be abandoned.
Arin stays where Kael can see him.
KAEL: The Origin can continue without a hand upon it. Do not let fear persuade you to sit in his place before you understand what it would mean.
ARIN: I wasn't planning to.
A faint trace of Kael's old humor appears.
KAEL: Plans change when people tell you only you can save them.
He shows Arin how to preserve the accessible records of creation. Zara copies the verified sections; she does not connect an unknown administrative system directly to every inhabited world.
KAEL: What made this universe. Who made it. What your bloodline can reach. Some of it I knew. Some of it I only learned today.
ARIN: And the rest?
KAEL: Do not call it truth merely because I said it.
Arin looks at the wound Mira cannot fully repair.
ARIN: Am I going to become like you?
KAEL: Your power is kin to mine. That does not tell me how long you will live. Or who you will choose to be.
ARIN: What about coming back?
KAEL: I cannot promise you that.
He reaches for Arin's wrist but does not pass a glowing inheritance into it. The gesture is familial, not a transfer effect.
KAEL: I thought nothing small could surprise me anymore.
Arin looks toward the others preparing to carry him.
ARIN: You missed quite a lot.
KAEL: Yes.
A breath.
KAEL: I did.
SCENE / PLAY
The party crosses together. The synchronized clocks record ordinary elapsed time. Zara isolates the gateway's destructive access remnants while leaving the independent sustaining connection intact. The procedure is prepared in the preceding encounter, not invented during a collapsing escape timer.
Kael's condition remains critical. Mira's final line on the subject is precise:
MIRA: He is alive. I can't tell you more than that yet.
REVIEW: This is mortal injury with uncertain survival, not a quick-heal setup. The sequel may choose death or enduring severe incapacity, but full-power Kael cannot simply resume solving Arin's problems.
E01-S02 — Nothing is fixed just because the sky survived
SCENE A — Neris clinic
The water runs clear from a repaired local supply. A treatment board is still full.
ATTENDANT: We have three more rooms open. Still not enough hands.
Mira rolls up her sleeves, then looks at the coordinator and asks where she will be useful instead of taking over without consultation.
SCENE B — Orin's family
His father's signed account sits among testimony from affected villages. An investigator records it without calling the matter resolved. The father has offered practical assistance through relief channels; whether particular communities accept it remains theirs to decide.
Orin sits at a table and begins a letter to his mother. He does not tear out the first page because it is awkward.
ORIN, writing: I saw him. We talked. I still have things I don't know how to say. I would like to hear how your garden is doing.
His father, elsewhere, makes tea for two out of habit. This time he sets the second cup aside before drinking it. We do not promise the parents can safely reunite yet.
SCENE C — Zara
At a guild counter, a clerk asks whether she wants a safer class of contract after everything that happened.
ZARA: A better description of the danger would be a start.
She sees Arin waiting outside and brings two copies of the posting.
ZARA: Read yours. I am not interpreting all the small print for you.
Warmth has returned through continued action, not an erased memory of their conflict.
SCENE D — Milo
Milo greets his route partner. The first moments remain untranslated. Later, several Kynari gather around a low projection of his route.
ROUTE PARTNER: Did you find where it ended?
MILO: Yes.
ROUTE PARTNER: And?
Milo glances at his waiting friends.
MILO: I found the way back too.
E01-S03 — A street in daylight
SCENE
Arin and Mira walk along the street she mentioned before the final journey. The environment contains remnants of the crisis, but also people repairing roofs, arguing over prices, and preparing an evening gathering.
ARIN: No contract.
MIRA: No one bleeding on us.
ARIN: There's still time.
She gives him a look.
ARIN: For the walk. I meant for the walk.
They stop at a small stall. He starts counting coins.
MIRA: You don't have to buy anything.
ARIN: I know.
He buys two simple drinks anyway. It is a small expense he chooses rather than a royal gift that solves his life.
For a while they watch the street.
MIRA: What will you do now?
Arin looks toward the sky, where no one has hung a sign naming him its most powerful remaining inhabitant.
ARIN: I don't know everything I can do. I don't think I should start by pretending I do.
MIRA: That sounds sensible.
ARIN: Don't tell Orin. He'll expect it again.
She laughs. Their hands touch briefly as she returns his empty cup. Neither makes a declaration the story has not earned yet.
ARIN: Could we do this again?
MIRA: Yes.
She does not qualify it as another investigation.
FINAL SCENE — evening meal
Orin has chosen a table with enough space for everyone's equipment. Zara is explaining why an allegedly simple contract is clearly not simple. Milo is negotiating the location of a plate.
Arin approaches and instinctively counts the places.
There is room for him.
He sits.
The camera remains with them long enough for the cosmic music to give way to ordinary conversation.
ZARA: Arin, are you listening?
ARIN: Yes.
This time he is.
The last wide view shows the street, then the town beneath its night sky. Existence continues. Nobody claims it has become perfect.
END CARD: SIN STAR I
POST-CREDITS POLICY: No mandatory replacement-custodian attack. A quiet sequel-facing image may show Arin practicing a small, controlled Axiom while Mira reads beside him. No new power level, wedding, child, guaranteed resurrection, or recovered full-power Kael is revealed in this draft.
Appendix A — Optional party scenes
These are optional presentations, not optional prerequisites for the main ending. Each reinforces a relationship already established by required scenes. Their placement is suggested; none awards moral worth, romance access, or final-battle eligibility.
OPT-01 — What he remembers besides the fire
Suggested placement: After C04-S02. Cast: Arin, Mira.
Mira finds Arin repairing the old wrist strap.
MIRA: Was it yours?
ARIN: My mother kept fastening it too tightly. My father said I'd complain if it wasn't tight enough either.
He smiles unexpectedly.
MIRA: What was he like?
ARIN: Terrible at telling stories. He'd explain the ending before he remembered the beginning.
MIRA: Did you tell him?
ARIN: Every time. He kept doing it.
Arin's smile fades, but Mira does not hurry to rescue him from the feeling.
ARIN: I usually remember the other part.
MIRA: You remembered this part today.
He returns to the strap. She stays without asking for another memory.
REVIEW: His parents were people he loved, not merely an explosion that produced a protagonist. Do not attach a cosmic explanation to the strap.
OPT-02 — The limit of a healer
Suggested placement: During C06-S05's relief work. Cast: Mira, Orin.
Mira washes her hands after a treatment that has not restored the patient as quickly as she hoped.
MIRA: I should have reached them sooner.
ORIN: You were with someone else.
MIRA: I know where I was.
Orin waits, then sets a clean towel beside her.
ORIN: What do you need next?
She looks toward the overloaded treatment board.
MIRA: Another trained healer. Clean supplies. Time.
ORIN: Which of those can we get first?
After a moment she hands him a supply list.
REVIEW: Orin does not explain her profession to her. He helps her move from impossible personal responsibility toward a concrete request. A healer remains skilled even when she cannot save or instantly restore everyone.
OPT-03 — Why Zara stays after the interesting part
Suggested placement: After C05-S04; allow at least one later shared task before this conversation. Cast: Arin, Zara.
Zara sorts damaged station parts for reuse.
ARIN: I thought you joined the guild for adventure.
ZARA: I did.
ARIN: This is a box of hinges.
ZARA: The door won't open without them.
He sits and begins sorting the other half.
ARIN: Is this the part the contract leaves out?
ZARA: Usually. Along with where to put all the people after you heroically remove their ceiling.
ARIN: That ceiling was already falling.
ZARA: And now you are helping with the hinges.
They continue working.
REVIEW: She has interests and habits beyond teaching Arin forgiveness. Remaining for unglamorous work is her chosen growth, not an obligation imposed because she is artificial.
OPT-04 — His mother's answer
Suggested placement: After C06-S06, during a later safe communications stop. Cast: Orin, his mother through an exchanged message.
MOTHER, message: Your sister says you asked whether I am angry. Yes, sometimes. At him. At what happened. At the people who came into our home. Being angry has never told me that I stopped loving him.
Orin listens twice before recording a reply.
ORIN: I thought there would be one answer that made everything simpler.
He pauses.
ORIN: I don't need you to find one for me. I just wanted to hear from you.
REVIEW: Her safety and location are not disclosed. Her love does not speak on behalf of victims elsewhere or settle what she knew before the scandal.
OPT-05 — The map only Milo can read
Suggested placement: Before C08-S01. Cast: Milo, Zara, Arin.
Arin studies a Kynari route projection that keeps changing as Milo shifts his head.
ARIN: The map moved.
MILO: You moved.
ARIN: Maps usually object less.
ZARA: It records approach, position, and the route back. Your display is trying to flatten all of those at once.
Milo lowers the projection so Arin can examine it from the intended angle.
MILO: There. That is where we turn.
ARIN: I see it now.
MILO: Good. Hold that for a moment. I need a drink.
He leaves Arin carefully maintaining an awkward pose.
REVIEW: This is preparation for a practical final contribution, not a joke about dogs secretly having a human brain. Their tools arise from their own bodies and perceptions.
OPT-06 — A hand offered back
Suggested placement: After C06-S06. Cast: Arin, Orin.
Orin tries to tighten a fastening one-handed after a fight.
Arin sits beside him and holds out his hand for the strap.
ORIN: I can manage.
ARIN: I know.
He keeps his hand extended.
Orin finally gives him the strap.
ORIN: It twists at the buckle.
ARIN: I have been receiving lessons about equipment for weeks.
ORIN: Then this should be excellent work.
ARIN: Try not to inspect it while I'm doing it.
Orin lets him finish.
REVIEW: Small reciprocal care completes a promise made by the early transport scene. Orin does not need another dramatic breakdown to let somebody help him.
Appendix B — Ending variants and sequel boundaries
B01 — Primary draft: critical survival, no promised recovery
This is the staged main ending in E01-S01. Kael leaves the Origin alive but mortally wounded and under exceptional support. “Alive at the last observation” is not a confirmed long-term survival outcome. He does not demonstrate renewed galaxy-altering ability, reveal that the wound was a test, or resume giving flawless instructions remotely.
Narrative advantage: The author retains the choice between later death and lasting incapacity without claiming Arin has inherited a resurrection mechanism. The current victory and return are complete even while the prognosis is not.
Required sequel discipline: Decide his surviving capacities before writing Sin Star II's main conflict. A mentor with bounded knowledge is different from an omnipotent emergency contact. Loss of power must not be treated as loss of personhood; he can remain morally accountable and personally significant without serving as the next game's strongest fighter.
B02 — Superseded comparison: Kael dies before the return
This comparison is not the accepted D16 ending. Do not apply it without a new direction from Sin. It would replace the last portion of E01-S01, after the verified records are secured. All previous party contributions and Aevos's defeat remain unchanged.
Mira's hands are steady, but her expression changes.
Kael understands before Arin does.
KAEL: You have done what you can.
MIRA: I am still here.
KAEL: I know.
Arin moves closer.
ARIN: There must be something in the records.
Kael touches the worn strap at Arin's wrist.
KAEL: Read them carefully. But do not spend your whole life waiting to begin it.
ARIN: You don't get to tell me not to care.
For a moment, Kael looks almost pleased by the anger.
KAEL: No. I don't.
He looks beyond Arin toward the gateway and the small piece of sky it contains.
His final breath is ordinary.
No light enters Arin. No unseen system announces a successor. No new heartbeat immediately promises another incarnation.
Mira stops her treatment only after she is certain it is no longer helping. She stays beside him.
The party carries his body home within the prepared field. Arin's grief does not prevent the others from helping him do what must be done next.
Dependent edits: E01-S01 loses its “alive” prognosis; E01-S02 gains a restrained remembrance chosen by the author. Do not announce universal forgiveness, erase his victims, or make his grave an automatic royal monument. The sequel must not reverse this death casually. Whether any persistence beyond bodily death remains possible is a separate author decision, not a promised twist.
B03 — Arin's life-cost Axiom is not selected in this draft
The earlier possibility that Arin pays with his life is a superseded comparison for this game. D16 accepts his survival; changing that requires a new direction from Sin. In the primary script, he risks death but is not required to die. The distinction allows him to demonstrate courage while also applying the lessons of restraint and cooperation.
Selecting a life-cost ending would require rewriting C09-S05 and all three epilogue scenes. It would also require answering whose informed choice triggers the cost, why the others cannot help distribute or avoid it, and whether the player is falsely promised resurrection. Do not simply add a death after the existing victory as an emotional surcharge.
No ending here automatically transfers “The One,” immortality, or an obligation to become custodian to Arin.
B04 — What the first game deliberately does not spend
Sin Star II may develop Arin's greater command of the Axiom, Mira's path to the throne, their relationship, marriage, or a child. Those possibilities are not closing revelations in Sin Star I. A child's value must not be reduced to the power predicted from two parents. Similarly, a future custodian is a possibility outside the current victory, not evidence that the party accomplished nothing.
Appendix C — Revelation, continuity, and gameplay checks
Setup and payoff map
| Setup | Payoff | What the payoff must preserve |
|---|---|---|
| C00-S01: nightmare, tremor, empty place | C04-S03: Kael answers; E01-S03: Arin takes a place among friends | The early dreams are not proven fixed-future prophecy. |
| C00-S02: cheap surplus armor | C02-S03: Orin recognizes the shared design | Arin did not secretly serve in Neris's army. |
| C01-S01–02: Mira saves and then stays | C09-S05: she attends even a dying antagonist without excusing him | Healing is compassion, not a verdict of innocence. |
| C01-S03: an old relay recognizes Arin | C08-S04: his defensive authority completes access | The gateway responds to more than a recorded sound. |
| C02-S02: evacuation rather than impossible victory | C08-S03 and C09-S05: coordinated objectives defeat stronger opponents | No last-minute solo power supremacy. |
| C03-S02: persons registered as assets | C09-S03: creator claims decision authority over created lives | Zara's personhood is not a prize earned through usefulness. |
| C04-S01: Orin's rescue predates his power | C09-S04: Kael sees the same protective choice | The old man did not manufacture Orin's compassion. |
| C04-S02: control, stop signal, failed recording | C09-S05: limited counter-Axiom and timely release | Power alone is insufficient; recordings and clones do not solve the second-speaker problem. |
| C05-S01–04: specific wrongdoing and accountable apology | C09-S04: Kael admits “I know” without demanding forgiveness | Understanding and absolution remain distinct. |
| C06-S01–04: two villages, different consequences | C07-S02 and C09-S04: Kael is challenged to count lives, not just outcomes | Gratitude from beneficiaries does not erase others' losses. |
| C07-S03: repeated iterations and a witness marker | C09-S02: The One and his first return | Earlier renewals are not retconned into prior visits. |
| C07-S03: imported ancestry and evolving Axiom patterns | C09-S02–04: Arin is unplanned, life produces possibilities | Importance is not restricted to the extraordinarily powerful. |
| C07-S03: postmortem traces | C09-S02: total discontinuation threatens continuity too | No routine resurrection or guaranteed parental reunion. |
| C08-S01: synchronized field and spare passenger capacity | E01-S01: return with Kael and ordinary elapsed time | Neither accidental billions of years nor backward time travel. |
| C09-S01: independent sustaining pulse | C09-S05: the pulse continues after Aevos dies | Defeating the custodian does not kill the universe. |
Chosen gateway explanation
The access assembly normally pairs an outside invitation with the witness's living signature. Arin supplies a compatible independent signature from inside, an unplanned route the original arrangement did not anticipate. Kael knew that Arin made a two-speaker intervention possible; he did not know the diagnostic purpose of his homeward compulsion. Aevos had not recalled him in person during earlier renewals.
Opening access is weaker than rewriting existence. Arin's “Hold” can complete an access circuit while remaining a genuine refusal of the Second Dawn. It does not mean that protecting his friends secretly counts as consent to their destruction. Aevos independently chooses to treat the unexpected return as sufficient evidence to terminate this version.
Author review: D12–D13 were accepted by Sin on September 15, 2026. It is selected because it reconciles the first return, millions of prior cycles, Arin's unexpected emergence, and the accidental gateway opening without giving Kael reliable future sight.
Battle and presentation rules
Dream duels are short, resource-free, and do not conceal an attainable victory. Veyra's encounter advertises evacuation. The Kael battle is genuinely winnable by the party through clear focus objectives. Aevos's first movement is a clearly staged interruption/survival challenge, followed by his escalation—not twenty minutes of meaningless damage against an unwinnable health bar.
Allow a preparation checkpoint before the final sequence and a non-disruptive retry checkpoint at the Origin battle. No ending depends on hoarding a consumable whose need was never communicated. The exact combat system, turn structure, skill names, numerical balance, and UI remain design work.
Aevos's four arms, worlds, and hourglasses should create readable encounter changes rather than become unrelated boss phases. Never confuse the destructive control link with the life-sustaining structure. Do not use the disappearance of displayed worlds as proof that inhabited planets were sacrificed to make the ending spectacular.
Companion skills supplement one another. Milo does not become a computer terminal with paws; Zara cannot hack unfamiliar reality instantly; Mira cannot heal every category of injury; Orin's lightning does not remove the need for tactics; Arin cannot turn every request into an unrestricted command.
Appendix D — Author review register
Use scene IDs when commenting. Resolve the high-impact choices before polishing every individual line; otherwise the same scenes will need to be rewritten repeatedly.
| ID | Priority | Decision to review | Current draft treatment | Main scenes affected |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q01 | High | Does Kael die, or survive with enduring severe limitations? | D16 accepts critical survival through the return. Eventual death, recovery or enduring limitations remain open. The immediate-death comparison is superseded; no full-power sequel role is promised. | C09-S04–05; E01-S01–02 |
| Q02 | High | Does Arin pay a mandatory life cost? Is any unusual lifespan established? | No mandatory sacrifice; lifespan unknown; no automatic reincarnation or role transfer. | C09-S05; E01-S01–03 |
| Q03 | High | Who is the old man, and how does the strike restore Orin? | Identity withheld; actual rescue shown; rare capacity and intervention remain possibilities. | C04-S01; C09-S02 |
| Q04 | High | What did Orin's father know about the destination villages when diverting supplies? | He admits diversion and consequences; no definitive foreknowledge level is assigned. | C06-S01; C06-S04 |

| Q06 | Medium | Why were no military charges brought, and how was the scandal exposed? | Partly resolved by D10: prosecution was avoided because it would expose deeper military corruption. The original scandal's exposure route and responsible suppressors remain open. Suppression is not innocence. | C06-S02; C06-S05 |
| Q07 | Medium | Who threatens the family, how are letters delivered safely, and what did the mother know? | Threats and home attack are established. No location is exposed; trusted correspondence is shown without inventing a full security network. | C06-S03; OPT-04 |
| Q08 | High | Are the relay crisis and Mira's limited royal mandate the desired main-quest opening? | Resolved by accepted D03–D04: relay opening, limited mandate and relief handover. Systemic and personal causes remain distinct. | C01; C06; C07 |
| Q09 | Medium | Are Veyra, the Kynari translator, and their navigation specialty suitable? | Resolved by accepted D05–D06: Veyra, wearable translation and Kynari navigation specialty. Milo remains a real dog and autonomous companion. | C02–03; C08–09 |
| Q10 | High | How literally should human outside ancestry, conscious participation, and postmortem traces work? | D11 accepts imported ancestry, conscious participation and postmortem traces. Their precise limits remain open; no routine resurrection or observer-blaming cosmology. | C07-S03; C09-S01–03 |
| Q11 | High | Does the two-sided gate / first assessment explanation fit the Origin? | Resolved by accepted D12–D13. Earlier cycles retain Kael; the first physical return is now. Access and rewriting remain different conditions. | C08-S02–04; C09-S02 |
| Q12 | Medium | Where is Neris, and what is Kael's exact Earth/Mars history? | Neris's planet remains unnamed. Kael detects Arin remotely while on Earth. Earth/Mars origin stays open. | C00-S03; C07-S01 |
| Q13 | High | How much did Mira's parents know, and what reform can begin before the ending? | Neither total innocence nor secret total control assumed. Investigation begins; kingdom not magically repaired. | C01-S04; C06-S05–06; E01-S02 |
| Q14 | Medium | Does Aevos die bodily or merely lose control? Is a successor foreshadowed? | Primary draft kills Aevos and preserves the autonomous substrate; no immediate successor cliffhanger. | C09-S05; E01-S03 |
| Q15 | Medium | What do the matching uniforms look like, and how many characters are active in combat? | Shared Neris design with different ownership; all five are narratively essential. Combat roster specifics are not implemented. | C00-S02; C02-S03; C08–09 |
| Q16 | Low for this pass | Names for relatives, monarchs, marshal, villages, ship, ordinary techniques, and the Axiom's spoken phonology. | D09 accepts the home village / East Valley labels. | Q17 | Reserved | Arin/Mira marriage, a child, later power scale, or a new custodian's agenda. | Sin Star II development; no binding reveal in this game's ending. | E01-S03; Appendix B |
Recommended first review pass
Read the script as a story before editing sentence by sentence. Mark scenes that feel unlike the character, places where the quest motivation becomes unclear, and revelations that should be earlier or later. D01–D16 no longer need initial approval. Review the remaining questions: the father's prior knowledge, the old man, Kael's eventual prognosis, detailed cosmological limits, royal responsibility, and the other unresolved entries. Review dialogue and visual staging separately from accepted canon.
This is a review order, not an implementation plan or permission to change repository code.
Appendix E — Draft status and scope
✅ A continuous main-story route is scripted from the opening nightmare through the return home.
✅ The five party members have distinct motivations, dialogue voices, and required actions.
✅ Orin's family wrongdoing remains real; no prosecution and community gratitude do not absolve it.
✅ The Axiom, repeated invitations, party victory over Kael, accidental access, The One, Aevos, and Kael's intervention are connected in the selected draft.
✅ The primary ending preserves Arin's unknown lifespan, uncertain Kael survival, the functioning universe, and ordinary elapsed time on return.
✅ D01–D16 are accepted canon, with D10 clarified by Sin on September 15, 2026.
📋 Remaining lore details, exact combat design, full NPC coverage, item/quest text, localization, voice performance, cinematics, and implementation remain.
📋 Dialogue and staging remain reviewable. Approval of D01–D16 does not settle every Q entry or imply implemented gameplay.
Confidence: High that the draft preserves the central character decisions supplied in the conversation. D01–D16 are author-accepted; unresolved details are retained in Q01–Q17 with resolved portions identified. No claim is made that the story is production-locked or that any proposed gameplay feature currently exists in SMILE.
Sources: The author's current conversation, summarized under S01–S15, and the supplied final-boss illustration under S16. All prose, dialogue, temporary locations, encounter framing, and scene construction are original draft material generated for this request. No external citations are needed for invented lore; no real-world scientific or historical accuracy is asserted for the fictional cosmology.
